But again Islam has regressed mightily; women had way more rights 1,000 years ago in the ME. Women had rights in the Arab world that wouldn't be reached till the end of the Victorian era in Europe.

The guy from Memphis doing the interview on CNN is terrific. He doesn't beat around the bush.

Only reason that place held out as long as it has was Ataturk wasn't down with that shite and left his mark.

As a war against these types should be, pitiless, swift, brutal, and overwhelming. It is beyond that time. Remove the political handcuffs and let's start stackin 'em up. Raqqa needs to be wrecked with a quickness.

i think a lot of this is cherry picking isolated examples by progressive cultural scholars to try to defend islam

but the west instituted its major institutions starting in about the 1600s and the great divergence began. the middle east never caught up

when life sucks, radicalism becomes popular.

Traveled for two weeks through Turkey a few years ago and loved it. Unfortunately it is becoming less secular.

People are people. Islam has billions of adherents. Is there an inherent flaw in the religion that breeds radicalism? Perhaps. But let's not dismiss the IRA, the Ethno-Religious cleansings in the Balkans and even the Buddhists terrorists in SE Asia. Are there more Islamist terrorists? Absolutely, but simply making sweeping generalizations about the religion and the billions of followers is invalid.

I agree, Rog

But I have no earthly idea what the truth is nor have I ever looked into it that much.

Growing up in Va, my little mountain high school was actually fairly diverse and everyone got along. But it just so happens that I and another poster went to high school with kids whose parents supposedly had ties to the Taliban. Our parents and older folks said it for years, but we just thought they were old crazy racists.

very minimal actual threat, especially these days

the Ethno-Religious cleansings in the Balkans

serbs were killing muslims and then muslims were killing non-muslims

and even the Buddhists terrorists in SE Asia

again, extremely small scale

and, again, it's a fight that is intertwined with muslims

ignore the terrorism and islam is still shite, as long as we judge it from western values

the white christian male is currently progressive enemy #1 in America, and he's a radical lefty compared to a moderate islamic nation's cultural values

Actually, their goal is to bring about the apocalypse. They don't want to hanghang out with you. They don't care about converting you other than to use you to fight....and then you will die.

I tend to agree, but I'll believe it when I see, and I have serious doubts as that we actually will witness it.

French President Hollande: "We are going to lead a war which will be pitiless."

It is time for Nato and Russia to play "lets kill them all."

Problem is those other terror groups are isolated. The IRA wasn't going to show up in Vancouver. The Buddhists are going to commit atrocities in Mexico City. Our new terrorist enemy is global, and no place is outside the domain of the jihad.

Oh I know.

But technically it's a Muslim country and I was responding to some really over the top comments about ALL Muslims, which is over the line.

Isn't Malaysia Muslim too? Ive heard thats nice.

if turkey were a US state, it would be considered the most vile, rightwing, anti-woman, gay, safe space, etc state by a large margin
