Yeah. One if the main reasons I like Bham is the proximity to TN mountains and the gulf. I like being a half a day to both. Not many places in the country offer that paired with 10ish months of good weather. I just hope we don't turn into Boise within the next 10 years with insane growth.

Southern California

There is a reason that so many want to live there despite the traffic, high taxes and increasingly high cost of living.

Lived there for 2 and half years and it was incredible.

yep it so beautiful in so many different ways. At noon you can be at Seal Beach in LaJolla and at 1:15PM you can be atop Mt Laguna at 5K and at 3PM be in the desert.

LaJolla is pretty cool, but I rather North County San Diego. Solana Beach, Encinitas, Cardiff Beach, Carlsbad.

Tampa can be pretty great for white collar middle class folks, but I think as others said, it greatly depends on your profession and how much money you have. I'm not even sure Tampa is the best city in Tampa Bay.

If I was straight ballin' I would live in Southern California for the climate alone. The type of house you can get for $5m in SoCal really isn't that much less than most other places anyway (unless you want a ton of land).

White collar family in IT/Finance/Account/etc I'd look to Boise, Dallas, Charlotte, and Nashville. Atlanta suburbs are pretty nice as well.

Middle class blue collar family where the guy has a skilled trade but isn't in O&G then I'd probably stay out of the deep south and go for the PNW or Minneapolis if I could stand the weather.

If youre a high-end software engineer then the bay area is going to be great for you.

Boise is an all-around great place for just about anyone in any situation. Houston if you are in O&G obviously, but it can also be a great place for middle class families of all types since it's so big, international, and housing is affordable.

Obviously, there's no single answer, but for me it's Enumclaw, WA. Feels like the country but less than an hour from Seattle or Tacoma. Mild summers and winters, tons of scenery and outdoor activities.

Bryson City NC. Cost of living is reasonable, climate’s pretty mild & the mountains are easier to navigate than the Rockies, etc.

I'd like to retire in some little town like that. I have no real desire to live in anything bigger than a mid sized city at this point in my life

Yeah, I think we're going to get out of the city and move over there soon. It's further from work mileage-wise but it will actually be a faster commute than driving in city traffic.

My career has a lot of options to work remotely. While I have a kid in school I'd just prefer the short commute and living in the city. Once she's done in 6 years all options are on the table.

Something tells me you've never been to La Jolla or the northern parts of San Diego.

As many have said, there’s no correct answer.. but to me, the ‘best’ answer would be to do it Ike some family friends of mine do it- they are a couple and they split their time between Wyoming and south Louisiana.. so when it’s hot as balls here , theyve already been in Wyoming since April, hiking and enjoying all the scenery, fishing , etc.. Then once football season starts, they’re down in La. so they dont miss any LSU home games- well, that’s not true, sometimes it’s still too hot down here for them in September, so they might miss the first couple LSU games.. It’s the perfect balance IMO, and it’s the way to go, if you can swing it.
