I'm in the market for a SUV and was intrigued by this one. Anybody have any insight on the quality, maintenance costs, etc.

Check out the new body style coming out this spring. They totally remodeled it.
Also if you buy a new volvo you can take delivery overseas and they will fly you out to the plant, put you up in a hotel then pick up your new ride from the plant. Then they pay for shipping it home as well. It's all free and you get a 4% discount off the msrp.

Loved the XC90. For the longest time, it was my target vehicle for "being a successful adult", you know? But the years went by and nothing changed about it. Volvo let new tech and style pass the XC90 by.
Most of the XC90's out there will be high mileage, and reliability is very hit or miss. If it's a miss, it'll cost quite a bit. I had a Volvo and loved it, but after warranty expired I had to deal with some pretty expensive repairs.
Having said that, there a great chance i'll go back to Volvo once the new XC90 comes out. It's gorgeous.

Never had an SUV, but I'm on my 3rd Volvo. They're great cars. Last a long time. But, when they break down, it can be really expensive to have them fixed.

Almost bought one before settling on a GC. I really liked them.
I asked a salesman why the prices stay lower than competitors and he said "because Volvos are boring as shite."

I had an XC90 but I would never own another as long as I live in BR. I can't stand the all star Volvo dealership and the V shop isn't much better.

That's really what I've heard about them as well. Don't break them. No experience with them personally though.

Wife had '04 XC90 T6 hit 63k and the tranny went out. We were able to get Volvo to fix it on their dime but it took them over a month. We kept it about another 9 months and traded it in. Doubt we buy another Volvo.

I have a handful of friends who have the xc60. Comfortable SUV with decent gas mileage.

They're similar to German cars. Reliable and perform well, good safety ratings etc. In the event that it does have maintenance issues though you're going to hate the costs

Enamored of mine. Maybe the safest vehicle on the road. Certainly one of them.
Repair costs aren't pretty.

not a fan of Fwd , not exactly know for quality and don't have the safety edge they had in the 80's.

What are we talking about with repair prices? That is what scares me

Anything electrical will cost a ton. If you can find a local mechanic to work on the normal stuff, it shouldn't be much worse than any luxury vehicle. I spent a couple hundred in parts and labor to replace a door handle. I changed the master brake cylinder and that cost about 700.

Damn. Cheap now but expensive later. Wife loves this one

I think it's more an issue of if you do need a more complex repair not a lot of places to bring it. and they are less reliable than say a Japanese car. They'll run forever like most euro's, but you have to maintain them.
