Live in BR, but got a promotion in accounts and took over the Nola territory abt a year ago and have been make the drive ever since. Been thinking of moving to either Prairieville or the North Shore, drove through Pass Christian the other day and really liked what I saw. We're a young family with an infant and saw they had good public schools. How would they compare with top public schools in LA and TX? How bad did they get hit with Katrina? Other areas around there?

Pretty much wiped clean by both Katrina and Camille before that. Friend had a place there that was just a roof piled on rubble with 3 boats, none theirs, stacked on top after Katrina. That is the risk you take on a coastal town, though.

Of course, that was a 36 year span between those 2 events. Seems like they have faired pretty well otherwise.

On schools, high school data is easy to get. Elementary/middle, I haven't looked.

That is one of the places I have looked at when I have been speculating where to live when I retire from the military in 5-8 years. The kids will all be gone so it will be just two of us and I need a beach house in the south.

It's a pretty beautiful area. And close enough to New Orleans for events. And close to Biloxi for the casinos.

With a young family I'd stay in mandeville or Covington. Pass Christian is nice but it's pretty slow and boring unless you play golf or go out on your boat.

The in laws have a big house there. A lot of money from Orleans and Jefferson Parish own there. Ride your boat up to
blind tiger in your pontoon boat.

The Pass got hit with 25-30' of surge in Katrina. Destroyed our camp and many around us. Infrastructure is coming back slowly from what I hear, but I haven't been back since about 2010.
Loved the time we spent three, not sure I could do full time, though. Was a fun place.

You'd be better at Bay St Louis. Got rocked by Katrina, but every town within 30 miles of the coast did. Schools are solid. Downtown area is surging back quite well.

Friend in Pass Christian has an old house that hadn't been flooded by storm surge before. Their first floor had massive water damage because the Wolfe River got major storm surge in back of the island and emptied a lot of it through their house.
