I’m so incredibly fortunate. I have a better relationship with my mom than I’ve ever had. I’m an only child. My parents sacrificed everything for me. Both worked their tails off... only saw them fight once. Bought me a truck at 16, paid for my college. I couldn’t have asked for a better childhood.

I love my mama. I can think of no truer person in this world.

My mother grew up on a dirt road farm and her childhood consisted of picking cotton and peanuts. As an adult, she worked 3 jobs and went to nursing school full time while raising four children. She often wouldn’t have enough money for a real meal for the family, so she’d scrape together some change and buy colored popcorn and tell us we were having a party. Looking back, those were some of my fondest memories with my siblings. We were dirt poor and didn’t even know it. I have never met a harder working, more honest person than her. Might not like what she has to say, but you can 100% take it to the bank as the truth, and she expects the same from the people around her. She makes everyone around her better.

She is my hero.

My mom grew up as a middle child of three siblings (my two uncle's). My grandparents weren't rich although they were very hard working ( grandpa was a mechanic and grandma was a lunch lady at the school). They didn't have an indoor toilet until my mom was in 4th grade. She got out of school to pick cotton in the fall (something they did on the side for extra money).

She went to college to be a teacher. Graduated in 3 years. Married my dad around 21 and although they are divorced now... They were married for 37 years and both did more than their best for us.

My mom is probably the hardest working person I know. She did the house work, cooking, cleaning, and yard work. (Dad was on the road alot for work.)

Every night we had a home cooked meal (leftovers mixed with something new usually).

My sister and I had chores, but they no where amounted to the amount mom did. I remember having to make her sit down to relax and watch TV... And shed usually only do that if she was folding clothes.

On top of what she did for us... She was an amazing teacher. I still see people or they tell me on Facebook how she was the best they ever had. She started recycling at my elementary school about a decade before anyone cared about that type of stuff. We would use our trailer once a week to carry all the schools recycleables from the school to the plant 20 miles away.

Even to this day I wish I had her enduarance and work ethic.

She also ran 6 miles almost every day rain or shine for probably 30 years... Now she teaches yoga and still is super active... Don't know how she does it.

First and foremost, though she's been mentioned in response to several threads I've started on the OT, to my knowledge, she's never actually had sex with any posters.

My mother has poor taste in men and we've both suffered for it. She loves me and my children like nothing else and is careful to stay involved without ever being intrusive or overbearing. She's very quirky, too.

My mom passed away in '70 when I was only 18. My dad passed when I was 41.

Time is precious concerning loved ones. I do believe that those two unfortunate events in my life made me appreciate to a greater degree the other people that I have come to love over time.

My mom grew up in France on the German boarder. She moved to the US when she was a teenager but went back to France, trained and served as a nurse with the French Army in WW2.
She survived the war, beast cancer, and was a nurse until her mid 70’s. She is now 95.

Nice topic...my brief summary won't do my mom justice but she was the oldest of three children. Grew up poor and rural. Moved to the city and made something of herself. Wound up at Alabama and got a 4 year nursing degree. She turned it into a way of life caring for others unselfishly...last March she was diagnosed out of the blue with an aggressive leukemia and passed away in August. Yesterday was our first Mother's Day without her but my father, daughter, and I went by her grave Saturday and decorated it. The sting is still there though but all that to say...cherish the moments you have with your mom and dad as well. I would give anything just to have a few minutes now to spend with my mom so please keep that in mind when you find yourself looking for something to do on a weekend for example...you don't get those opportunities back when they're gone.

My mom sheltered me a lot growing up. We lived way back in the bayou, just me and her. Can’t blame her for being the way she was after my dad ran off.

I was lucky enough to find work assisting a local college football team with their hydration needs which helped us get by. I guess the years of frustration and pent up aggression just came out one day, and I lost my temper and hit one of the guys on the football team full force. The hit was so violent that the coach ended up asking me to join the team.

My mom hated the idea. She fought tooth and nail for me not to play, and unfortunately I had to play behind her back. She ended up hospitalized for some issues but got over that. She’s my biggest fan today though

Sounds familiar.

I'm glad many of you have wonderful mothers. Some of us didn't and we envy you.
