I am not active on this board (OKC Talk) but knew they had some Tulsa coverage. Board is OKC based/focused but has some good Tulsa info. Board leans left so keep that in mind as you peruse.

Not pushing any agenda, there was a reason the US Government chose Oklahoma over every other state.

That was simply just about the timing of it all it was just a territory that the US had at the time so it worked out had nothing to do with the quality or natural resources of the land. Sure, Western Oklahoma isn’t that nice but east of 35 generally speaking is very nice

Not sure why this thread keeps confusing the wind in okc with Tulsa. Windier cities in US include Dallas, Atlanta, Detroit, Indy, SF, etc.

It’s has a windier spring and fall but not summer and winter. You are all twisted up.

Because they don't know what they're talking about. They see Oklahoma and all they think is flat and wind. On and weat of I-35, sure.

But where I'm at in Oklahoma is hilly and wooded and the only wind is when you're out of Lake Texoma.

But whatever. Where i am, Dallas is an hour closer than OKC which is an hour closer than Tulsa, so the closest I ever get to Tulsa is going up 69 to Big Cabin to hit 44 to Missouri.

If you want to really confuse them, post pics of Talihina, Broken Bow or Grand Lake.

Yeah. I live a county away from the Kiamichi Mountains. Serious backwoods stuff in the middle of the hills.

Pushmahtaha County is great deer and bear hunting and far from civilization.

Buddy of mine just took a job up that way and it got me wondering. I've never been there, though I've been to Oklahoma a few times.

Is it nice this time of year?

Your buddy will love it. I made the move to the area about 10 years ago. Live in a suburb of Tulsa. Like most cities, Tulsa itself has some areas to stay away from. Mainly north of downtown.

The landscape in the area is not bad. Basically the foothills of the Ozarks start just to the east on hwy 412. Very green area and not at all like the western portions of Oklahoma.

Good suburb living

Forest Ridge Broken Arrow

Stone Canyon Owasso

Food scene is a little different as you have a mix of people in the area. Not quite southern where most of us grew up, but decent food. Airport is easy to get in and out of and they are expanding the international portion of the airport and it should be operational soon. American Airlines has its maintenance hub in Tulsa, so lots of direct flight options.

The metro itself is over 1 million in population, so you have some traffic to deal with. Mainly the BA Expressway and also 169 which connects Owasso to the BA. 169 is a death trap and one of the most dangerous highways in Oklahoma...People in Oklahoma cannot drive. My belief is that it is so rural not too far out of the city, that so many people commute in for work that are used to driving small town rural roads, they congest the main expressways.

Schools are a bit of a crap shoot. We do private schooling and there are plenty of options for those in the area. Most of the public schools in the area are very large. Broken Arrow is the largest district in the state and its high school has nearly 5k students. Jenks High school is right behind it at over 3500 students. Union High School has 3300 students, Owasso High School has 3k students.

There are lost of private school options. Holland Hall, Victory Christian, Metro Christian, Regent Prep, Cascia Hall, Lincoln Christian, Rejoice Christian, Summit Christian, Monte Cassino, and Bishop Kelley.

Some nice lakes nearby as well that are pretty crystal clear along the foothills of Ozarks. Illinois River is also a good float/canoe river along the foothills.

Grand Lake

Lake Tenkiller

Illinois River

Tulsa Time was written by JJ Cale.

Tulsa is way better than OKC for just a nice looking city.
Wannamaker Gun Show is a hug thing
Night Trips still rocks Tulsa
COL is good.
Summers really suck.. bad... Hope you like 104 degree temps for about a month.
Being in the foothills there is great.\\

Thats about it.

I really like visiting there and it’s an overall pretty city. I go there for work from time to time and always enjoy my stay.

Not sure about living there though. Still kinda ghetto’y from what the locals say

this is my opinion. North by the airport is pretty ghetto. Downtown and south to Broken Arrow/Union is nicer.

Much nicer feel than OKC. Hills and greenery instead of flat and brown.

also agree with this. I like both OKC and Tulsa, but if i had live in one, I'd take Tulsa. OKC is cleaner, but Tulsa is prettier and you have access to more greenery and outdoors activities.

unless you're talking about just the HS, Tulsa and OKC are larger districts.

speaking of, i always find how they do football playoffs to be interesting. Even though they sit right by each other, Bixby, Jenks, and Union don't have to face off till later in the playoffs because of rankings.
