I don’t think this defines the one that got away. The one who got away is the one you SHOULD be with today.

Met another woman, fell in love, got married, raised three children and now enjoy the grands.

It worked out super well.

A Georgia peach in between college and grad school. She wanted to date. I was an absolute idiot and didn’t lock it up. She moved across the country. 25 years ago. See her on social media. She is successful, married, and the perfect family.

Think about her often.

Before law school, dated a really good looking girl. She was an only child from a wealthy family. But, she was embarrassingly dumb. Very sweet, but very dumb. Looking back, perhaps intelligence was overrated. Her family, particularly her Dad, really liked me.

She also aged very well.

Don’t fall for the curated bullshite. It’s just classic projection coming from a place of low self esteem.

I had one get away while at LSU. She was gorgeous and from a good family. She was going to med school and did become a surgeon. Our priorities didn't align. She thought I was looking for a marriage and she had a long way to go in school. I was content just getting laid. I guess I didn't meet her ideals for a long term commitment. Still love you Beth!

She rolled in
My little sandy town
She spent the summer there
A couple houses down
Well it was magic in the air
When she caught my eye
We shared three short months
And one long goodbye
She was the one that got away
The one that wrecked my heart
I should've never let her go
I should've begged her to stay
She was the one that got away
Yeah, the one that got away
Well she kissed my lips
Down on Ocean Drive
She set my world on fire
On the fourth of July
We wrote our names in the sand
Under the star-soaked sky
But it washed away like she did
With the rising tide
She was the one that got away
The one that wrecked my heart
I should've never let her go
I should've begged her to stay
She was the one that got away
Every summer that rolls around
I'm looking over my shoulder
Wishing I could see her face
Wishing I could hold her
She was the one that got away
The one that wrecked my heart
I should've never let her go
I should've begged her to stay
She was the one that got away
Yeah, she was the one that got away
The one that wrecked my heart
I should've never let her go
I should've begged her to stay
She was the one that got away
She was the one that got away
She rolled in
My little sandy town
She spent the summer there
A couple houses down

the one that got away from me, Yulia. Black haired, thin and in shape with exotic eyes and sexy/charming Belorussian accent. I met her in a bookstore in Hong Kong and went back and forth for a year while she worked in Beijing and traveled home to Nizhny Novgorod. She finally took the jump and decided to just move to HK and live with me. Smartest person I have ever met, curious, incredibly tough. It was impossible to lie to her or otherwise fool her. She was truly my soulmate and my dream woman. Everything I needed. She was also by far the sexiest woman I have ever had my hands on.

She was my best friend and we could finish each other sentences from basically the moment we met.

She passed away in a car crash in 2018 while we were visiting her grandmother outside of Minsk. We were married for two years, together for six. 34 days short of her 30th birthday.

I have one or two but the logical continuation of "got away" is - obviously - not getting away, permanent relationship marriage. This would mean I don't have the wife and kids I have now and you could give me one hundred million dollars and I would not trade them for anything.

No regrets.

Not sure why someone would find that as a problem. When the chips are down, that women has always been there for me.

Do I wonder how my life would have been differently if I married her? Sure, but I’m happy with the way things turned out for both of us.

Several.
I'm the one that screwed them up, and they're definitely better off now than if I hadn't.
