Have a job opportunity there, will be in the office downtown. Lower 30s, no kids. Wife works at hospitals so we're good there. Need a yard for my dog.

Any place to look at/ avoid? Anything I should know other than what you pick up living in the next state?

It’s a larger version of cities like Baton Rouge, Jackson, or Shreveport.

So, a lot of bad parts, but some really nice areas. Most decent people have fled to the the suburbs or completely out of the area.

Most businesses downtown have fences surrounding their property.

There is an area called Whitehaven. It’s exactly how it sounds. Move there.

If you can afford a place in Collierville or Germantown, or even Olive Branch, MS go for it!

You're gonna want to live in a suburb, and your commute will most likely be about 40+ minutes 1 way. Germantown and Collierville are obvious choices. If you want a smaller town that probably has more affordable houses, don't overlook Arlington.

Watch the blind side. You’ll get a feel of the area. And see Sandra Bullock in prime time.

Don't even think about living in the city of Memphis. Head for one of the nicer suburbs. Try Germantown or Collierville.

It’s home to one of, if not the greatest hobby shops in the Southeast United States of America, Midsouth Hobbies. If you go to Memphis, this should be stop #1. Just make sure when you go you give yourself plenty of time. Their selection is so massive and prices so good it will take you a while. If you have a truck, I suggest driving it.

I always feel like there’s a dark cloud hanging over Memphis. The Jackson, Montgomery comparison is right on.
