I've heard multiple people lately make comments like "St. Francisville is the new Mandeville" or it's the "Mandeville of Baton Rouge." Mind you I've never been there.

-what is the school situation there? Public? Private?
-where does it fall on the redneck scale?
-do people there already have money (older folks) or is it younger folks who commute?
-is there a good local food scene? What about things to do with kids?
-anything else?
-would it be worth the drive to take the family there for a day? What is there to do on a day trip?

There is a really cool bridge that no one uses.

Thinking of moving there myself

Small town feel, good schools, nice scenery, wonderful Golf Course and commute isn't that bad.

Both. Some of the best public schools in the state.

Has it's fair share but also a fair share of classy old money types

Mostly old people. I know some young people who commute and some that live and work there.

Food is OK. Some good local restaurants and new smokehouse/butcher shop that has some good stuff. As far as kids, I dunno. Lots of outdoor activities to do. Also, you're really not far from the BR zoo or anything in BR.

If your family is into pretty old homes and plantations, antiques, art, etc. it'd be worth it.

I've had some good meals at "The Francis" which is basically just a rip off of The Chimes.

Mediocre public school
quote:

7/10
quote:

Some older people with some money but not tons. The younger folks are a mix of middle class and poor.
quote:

-is there a good local food scene?

Absolutely not! The restaurants are okay. Nothing and I mean nothing that is interesting beyond the third visit.

What about things to do with kids?

don't know
quote:

-anything else?

There is only one sort of decent grocery store.

Not much. You can visit, but the kids will be bored.
It's a town with a great deal of potential but it's meh.

It's prob one of the best places to live in Louisiana if you're looking to get out of the riffraf. I know plenty of people who make the commute into BR (mostly downtown) for work.

As far as kids go do you go hunting fishing? If so this place is great for them. I have a couple acres up there and the kids do not ask for technology ever.

Mediocre public schools? They consistently rank higher than Ascension and Livingston Parish school systems and sometimes higher than Zachary.

It's one high school, right? Being the tallest midget isn't saying much.

Yeah can't stand people who can't intelligently use analogies.

In the grand scheme and nationally yeah pretty mediocre. But for Louisiana that means ranking in the top 2 or 3 every year for a public school system. You can only work with what you got.

The guy asked about the public schools and they're just about the best you can do when it comes to public education in Louisiana. Not sure what people are trying to argue. Obviously Louisiana has shitty public schools in the grand scheme of things.
