I actually called my divorced friend last night because of this thread, just to get his input because I was curious. He's a decent looking guy, pretty successful in his career. He said the dating apps are trash for actual dating. The ones he used were strictly for hooking up, though he said he did meet a handful of really cool girls. But he said even the girls on there claiming to be looking for something serious were mostly just trying to hook up. He said when he first started using them he wasn't having any luck because he saw them as a true dating app. As soon as he started talking to girls on there like he was at a bar, the floodgates opened.

Make sure you are ready to date and get used to the term ghosting. I was with that her for about 5 months and head over heels and she just dropped me like a sack of shite one day. Never heard from her again. That shite hit harder than my divorce did.

I really thought "ghosting" was a 20-year-old thing, but I know that I am wrong. The last date I made with someone online was over a year ago. We went on one date, met to walk around the lakes a few days later, then she took me to Ghosttown. I really didn't see it coming. It wasn't like I had a ton invested in her already, but I hate the whole disappearing act.

I MUCH more hate the sitting and wondering WTF happened than I do the rejection itself. Just tell me I am a fricking loser--I don't care. At least I know where I stand.

I’ve been ghosted after dates and stopped caring because I had nothing invested. To have it happen in an established relationship is a complete mindfrick. And to make it worse, she lives about 5 minutes away so I see her all the time.

Well shite. She is like Casper...a ghost that you can actually see.

And if you decide to stop her someday and say "hey, what the frick", then that makes YOU the bad and creepy guy.

Exactly. The other day I was leaving the store and she was parked in front of me and waited for me to leave before exiting her vehicle lol. They’re brutal and it’s like nothing happened for them because they probably have 10 guys on the bench waiting to hear their number called.

Don't forget about the wad of hundreds.

You could always find some other friends and MAC their exes.

I've been ghosted and I've ghosted. It goes both ways. I always felt like if I called or texted and didn't hear back for a day or so, they weren't interested. If you know what to expect it's not that big of a deal.

I had a thirty something gal I was interested in. She worked at a car dealership. One day she is giving me a hug and asking me about my girlfriend and my family. I eventually showed interest in her and she told me she had a boyfriend. Every since then she seemed offended every time I got my car serviced. She is a very hot lady who is constantly posting selfies with her girlfriends. I don’t mind if she is gay or straight. I just wish I knew what I did to have her give me the cold shoulder.

Date younger women for fun and date more your age for a serious relationship is a safe rule of thumb. When I was 40, I dated a 28 year old for a while and then another the same age. They both were fun but eventually got on my nerves.

If you are not a loser and living with your mom it's too easy to meet older women. It is fun at first but becomes more a hassle then its worth to be honest. It got old quick for me.

Best of luck to you!

They see 5’7 and think they have a chance.

They see “not fat” and think “good enough.”

Signed,

A fellow 5’7 guy.
