B) St. Bernard got as much water as the 9th Ward - if not more. Why would they be trying to swim into St. Bernard?

I think he was thinking of Algiers.

I actually live in St. Bernard, and I'll follow along.

Good:
School system is Top 10 in the state. Chalmette HS is an A school with some of the best facilities in the state (Thanks FEMA!) If you are in the Davies ES / Trist MS pattern, you will never have to spend a dime in tuition

Docville

Food - Several great local places. Everyone knows Rocky's, but also places like Crave, Brewsters (A poor man's POC burger), MeMe's, Arabi Food Store, etc

Plus, two of the greatest local deli/meat shops you will ever see - Tag's (home of $3.99 chisesi ham) and Jeanfreau's

If you like fishing and hunting, amazing opportunities 15 minutes from your house

Some of the people are the best hard working down to earth people you will ever meet.

There are plenty of slightly chubby girls with very nice curves.

The Bad:

Some of the people are the biggest white trash you will ever meet.

We must lead the country in food stamps per white person and cigarette purchases per white person. I don't think the Surgeon General's Warning ever made it this far down river.

There are only about 3-4 neighborhoods with decent housing stock, although that is getting better with new construction here and there, and the revitalization of Old Arabi.

The Ugly:

We are not being taken over by thugs and druggies, but there is a drug problem here. It's the cheap drugs - pills, crack, etc. However, it is easily avoidable.

The only ways here are the ferry through the gutter of Algiers, through the 9th ward, and way around via the east

The shopping here is rough. You have some cool local shops, otherwise it's a few grocery stores, WalMart, and about 7,000 family dollar type stores.

The racism among those over age 50 is absolutely horrific.

Pretty accurate assessment.

I sure miss Tony's though. I always thought it was much better than Rocky's. Brewster's is legit. I haven't been in a while, but their tuna steak/baked potato was around $6.99 and was better than most "real" restaurants. I don't know how they kept their prices so low. And their french bread-type bun is the best hamburger bun I've ever had.

Almost all of my family went to Denham. Most got flooded again last year. They all lived in Chalmette, Violet, Poydras, etc. Some were Islenos and spoke this sloppy arse English-Spanish combo. Cool people. They all lived to be 90+. All of the guys were fishermen, and all of the women sat around and smoked cigarettes all day. The women are all yat as hell.

Now that I think about it, the other side of my family is from Mexico City. Owlie and I need to have an OTGT in the Lowe's parking lot

The weird part about chalmette to me, is that yes, there are good and bad parts/people in chalmette, but they aren't segregated per se

I guess what I mean is that there seems to be no good part or no bad part of town... it's pretty much like brackish water

I could be wrong, cause I don't go there much.. just to get crawfish when my plug in plaquemines doesn't have any

I grew up in meraux and recently moved to Metairie. I still go down there a lot for work and the worst thing about it the damn st Claude bridge is ALWAYS up but it's faster to take st Claude then Claiborne.

I still eat down there a lot. Today's ketch seafood had some awesome po boys and Gerald's has great doughnuts and burgers.

There's some awesome new construction houses in arabi that are driving up the property values there. Old arabi is already pretty pricy.

I grew up in St Bernard and still visit very, very often. Very accurate write up, especially the food portion. Also, I would argue that Chalmette High's athletic facilities are no lower than top 3 in the state. Good write up

Was great! But towards the end, they really went downhill. The last three-four times I went there, the food was either undercooked or burnt, nothing was right, etc.

Not a tuna fan so never had that at Brewsters, but you get a burger and a baked potato for less than 8 bucks. And both are solid good.

2 nice gyms, an indoor pool, football, baseball, and softball stadiums. Yeah, it's very nice.

It's pretty cool on Friday night to see people tailgating across Palmisano from the football stadium.

I'm not from here... I grew up in Kenna Bra, but my wife is from here. A lot of people are still upset there is only one HS, but I think it's the best decision this place made in a long, long time.

Shelmet (<- that's how Siri's dumbass spells chalmette ) doesn't need two high schools. They lose enough people to holy cross as it is

I personally know over ten former Chalmation families (including my own) that have moved to Covington/Mandeville/Madisonville. To say nobody moved anywhere besides Slidell or Denham is just ignorant.

There's a lot of bullshite in your post but this is the one you need to be called out on. There is no bridge from the 9th into Chalmette. No STB deputy blocked access into the parish after Katrina. In fact, the 3 times I was allowed in to my mom's house we had to go through State police checkpoints with Guardsmen. Stop with the bullshite stories already.

He must be thinking of Gretna, when the Gretna PD decided it didn't want a horde of people roaming through the area which was mostly deserted. How dare Gretna not welcome the looters.
