I have a family member who has been a drug addict since she was a teen. Completely messed up childhood. Terrible mom. Thief, liar, etc. She ended up in jail for about a year. In jail, she got clean and started working on herself. She found our she is bipolar (something that my sister never bothered to address). She has been out for several years now. She has stayed clean. She is in a good long term relationship. She is amazing with her kids and those kids are so damn happy to have a real mom. She has kept a steady job and moved into a manager position (even without a HS diploma) where she acts as a mentor for her young employees.
People can change. I never stop telling her how proud I am of her for the way she has turned her life around.

Good Lord. My brother. Lived off my parents until my mother died last year. My father has severe dementia. Now I have taken over the estate and closed it out and he has been cut off. He has sent me death threats. I’ve cut him out since in one of his threats he said he wants out of the family. He has mooched since I can’t remember . Disappointed but that bridge can only burn so many times. Btw he is 57 years old. I have no idea where he is now.

My stepbrother. At one point he was getting a joint PhD/MD. Actually got the PhD before spiraling. Lots of rehab that didn’t stick, one finally did. He teaches scuba dive lessons part time in a landlocked state when he does work. He’s just waiting on his dad to die for his inheritance. He’s going to flip his shite when he finds out he’s not getting a lump sum but an allowance situation.

Ive seen 90 yo coke heads. Amazed they havent had heart attacks but they dont.

I’m old,I’ve known quite a few losers in my life.People that were or could have been on top of the world and threw it all away for drugs,alcohol or gambling,strange.
Sad to see and I never could understand the things some people do.
