A disturbing coincidence is that he lived about 2 blocks from where Sean Vincent Gillis resided when they arrested him a decade later.

Yes his father survived. I’m not proud of it but he is my cousin. I didn’t grow up with him as I moved at a younger age to a neighboring state, so I didn’t really know him very well. His dad and sister are great, upstanding people. It’s such a shame.

Hopefully they have been able to move somewhat beyond this.

We’re around the same age. After the murder there were a few middle school aged kids who all committed suicide. One of the kids went to McKinnly middle and the other girl went to one of the catholic schools. This was circa 95,96. Everyone was blaming Marylin Manson for the suicides.

I remember a rumor after this happen that he was smoking weed and listening to the Doors when he killed his parents. There’s a specific line in a Doors song that triggered the idea of killing mom and dad.

I was 10 or 11 when the happened and smoking weed was so wrong at the time. Thanks war on drugs.

Doors song was "The End". It was indeed a very disturbing crime.

If it was in 1996 I have a very vivid memory of him letting out an eery smile to the cameras as he sat in the back of the police car. Freaking scary. Pure evil

Is it weird that isn’t more info about this case online? It’s almost as if it didn’t happen?

Interesting this gets brought up because a few months back, I started doing some digging on this.

So he killed the mom but the dad survived. Supposedly he had some friends over at the time. The dad was able to wrestle the gun out of his hands and his sister ran to a neighbors house.

Afterwards, he went and sat in the driveway behind the family Volvo waiting for the cops to get there, covered in blood. There was all this videotape hanging from the ceiling in his room, like old school Nine Inch Nails style.

Oddly enough, a few years later an LSU professor who bought their old house was stabbed in the driveway by a deranged ex-student. He lived though.

Although I was a few years older, I remember him from Episcopal as a weird dude, but I never thought he would murder anyone.

I interviewed him about 15 years ago. At the time he was in a facility over off hwy 30. Not sure how specific I can get but I can say that at some point a college professor was bringing students to listen to him speak as part of a philosophical exercise. The big question was at what point do we consider someone rehabilitated and how do we tell the difference between keeping someone locked up for the safety of the public vs keeping someone locked up as punishment.

His case is really interesting and not as black and white as many people think.

For starters he was 16 at the time of the murders. You have to ask yourself how much good comes from a 16 year old being sentenced to 40 years in prison and who are you protecting by keeping him locked in a cage. The whole thing is muddy.

What he did was a horrible and evil thing, but doing an evil thing does not make someone an evil person. The man will be in his 50's when he gets out. It's hard for some people but you have to think about which Clay Logan has the best chance at being a productive member of society. 56 year old Clay, or 30 year old Clay.

Why not both?
