This is just like that Pelicans player. Sad and all, but you play with fire and there may be consequences.
Didn't the Pelicans player kick down the door, proceed into the dwelling and kick down the bedroom door? This isn't the same situation at all.

Similarities:
In both cases the deceased were shitfaced
In both cases the deceased made actions which were obviously mistaken as breaking and entering
The point I was trying to make is that getting so shitfaced that you can't find your home/destination is the so-called 'fire'. If you don't play with it, then likely both situations are avoided.

Wasn't there a town that mandated this a long time ago, and violent crimes went down immediately in the short term, but eventually rose above the rates before gun ownership was mandated?
I thought I read that before, i'll try to find it.
Don't have time to find the link.....that town would be Kennesaw Georgia......it was here on OT yesterday

Unless this kid threatened the guy, I find it hard to sympathy with the shooter. Some people are way too trigger happy.

when my grandmas alzheimers got really bad she would escape the house and walk to random neighbors at 3am. Since our neighborhood is quiet she came across a few unlocked doors. Twice I had to retrieve her at 3am at a neighbors house.
Sad. After the second one, we turned my house into a fortress where you needed a key to leave every room and to leave to go outside.
I'm glad no one shot an 82 year old woman looking for her long dead mother.
But by law my neighbor had every right to do so.
But with a quiet neighborhood and a one minute 911 response time, we aren't so quick to shoot here.

Once it went from banging on the door to a window being busted in, that's when the line has been crossed and any reasonable person would think whoever is on the other side of that door has bad intentions.
I'm sorry, you should know what you are defending yourself from. Blindly shooting through a door (or window) is not acceptable. Neither is shooting a suspect who has a gun still in his pocket.
hearing a window break is not justification to shoot.

Did the story say he blindly shot?

also the window breaking could be an excuse.
"Oh shite I just shot a kid, omg, omg, what to do. I know break a window and say he was trying to break in.."

The police were responding to a B and E, he'd have had to make it up before he shot.

If cops took your advice, they wait to see if Sterling is going to get his gun and then what he plans to do with it, too late, 1 of them is shot.
if this dude waits to hear the door open to see if it's someone with a gun coming in to harm him, it's too late, he probably gets shot.
I think this particular instance is a tough one, it's right on the fence. The article mentioned he "tried to communicate" with the kids. If the story is that he's yelling at them and they're not responding AND then they break glass...yea, it woulda been nice to wait a bit longer, but it's not like it's a very easy decision for this guy trying to protect himself and the girl with him.

Who knows.

A kid was tripping on acid about a year ago here and a similar situation unfolded. Sad shite for everyone involved

I've walked into the wrong apartment/condo units several times. One time I scared the shite out of some poor girl and quickly said I had the wrong number as I ran out. I've also had drunk people show up at several of my houses over the years. In college, it was cool, just throw them on the couch and let them sleep. Now that I'm in my late 20's it's not cool and I'm going to tell you to gtfo my porch
I forgot about one time in college when my roommate and I found an Alabama fan in his bed. No idea how he got there but our house was right off the square in Oxford. He ended up getting his arse kicked after refusing to leave our house. He deserved it

so if they were already responding to a B and E was it really a case of a teen knocking on the wrong door.

But we are supposed to expect them to wait for someone to start shooting at them before they do anything.
So, if you, your wife, or your child makes a mistake and walks on to my property, you're OK with it that I shoot first and ask questions later?
