Right, so you can see how unfair tough a situation the homeowner was put in.

I have never entered the wrong dwelling.

Maybe Alcohol is the problem here.

Doubt it, I drank like a fish when I was younger and never walked into the wrong house.

IF you read the story it seems evident that the guy knew the teenager posed no threat. It's one in the afternoon and it's a drunk teenager and they were communicating with each other. He had no reason to shoot him other than overreacting to glass breaking.

That's fine. I'm not going to argue you're wrong for thinking that way, and despite my recent reputation, I'm not being contrarian just for the sake of it. I just believe some people are too quick to give a pass to every legally justifiable shooting. As I say nearly everytime it is discussed, a legal use of deadly force does not always equal a moral use of deadly force.

If there was a law stating you had to own a gun, maybe people wouldn't go entering other people's houses.

What else besides home invasion is this guy supposed to think is happening?

do you guys live in constant terror? You have to exercise more caution IMO instead of blindly shooting

I agree with you. Did either one of these people wake up that day knowing that one of them would be in jail and the other dead. Life sucks sometimes all you can do is enjoy the time you have here and hope when something is thrown at you make the right choice.

Oh, this argument. Like the one we've seen made against cops, yet 8 cops have been killed. But we are supposed to expect them to wait for someone to start shooting at them before they do anything.

Based on what part of the story?

quote:

and they were communicating with each other
It said he "tried to communicate", did it say they were communicating back and forth?

It was a shitfaced kid who had just broken a window to the wrong house. I doubt any real communication was happening with someone in that state.

Wasn't there a town that mandated this a long time ago, and violent crimes went down immediately in the short term, but eventually rose above the rates before gun ownership was mandated?

I thought I read that before, i'll try to find it.

You guys are always talking about checking a person's knuckles, but seems like most of y'alls would be clean since you would be too scared to fight and just shoot the guy instead.

Where I live, and I live in two states back and forth, both states require an intruder be inside the home before you can take this action.

Did the killer even try to call 911? Doesn't sound like he was in imminent danger right away. I know that's not always possible, but in this case, it seems like it would have been.

Reading the article a little too much for you?

quote:

Police said they were called to the house at 12:56 p.m. for a report of a breaking and entering, which suggests Lovell might have thought he was being robbed.

Chicopee has had exactly 1 murder in the last 4 years. Not exactly Chiraq (Chicago) here.

It's pretty easy to blame the kids on being "drunk", they also could of easily been drunk and trying to break in. They may not of heard the guy and so decided to break in. Why would the break a friend's house window? But also, people need to stop shooting through a door unless the intruder is armed and dangerous. I mean call the police, show them your gun, tell them the police are on the way, etc. Shooting someone through your front door is pushing criminal imo, you can't just shoot someone because they made a mistake and scared you.

Armed or not an intruder comes into my home with my family they are taking a 12 gauge slug to the chest.
