Houston Chronicle article - Jan 26, 2016

quote:

A Texas teenager who was suspended from school after helping a classmate who was having an asthma attack won't return to the school, the teen's mother said Monday.

Anthony Ruelas was suspended for a day last week when he disobeyed his teacher by picking up his classmate and leaving the classroom to carry her to the nurse's office.

The teacher had emailed the nurse when the girl began suffering the attack and fell to the floor. A disciplinary form explained that the teacher was awaiting a response from the nurse when Anthony uttered an expletive about not waiting and picked up the girl, Cortes said.

If this is true, I would be calling for someone's head. A kid stops breathing and falls to the floor, so the teacher sends a fricking email to the nurse?

What in the frick is happening in public schools these days?

After watching some of the classroom videos posted here I'm not surprised the teacher didn't give a shite.

School officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday. The Killeen school district last week issued a statement that read, in part, that the district "applauds the efforts of students who act in good faith to assist others in times of need."

They have a funny way of "applauding he efforts of students who act in good faith to assist others in times of need" seeing how they suspended a kid for doing exactly that.

This is probably district policy, and the teacher won't get into trouble because she followed protocol.

WOW.

Yeah, the school/risk manager will change the protocol of emailing the nurse in the future to avoid the potential wrongful death claim by a girl's family in the future. A fricking email.

Longer article. Teacher sounds like exactly what you expect in class rooms today. First priority is preserving job, everything else comes after, even students health.

Middle school is still just 6th through 8th grade, correct? Is this the new norm - to be 15 and not yet in high school? I turned 15 the first week of my Sophomore year of high school, but that was almost 20 years ago.

i'm in the same county as Killeen. Their teachers jump from that district like rats from a ship to Temple and Belton.

From the second link:

quote:

Anthony Ruelas

quote:

Mandy Cortes, Ruelas’ mother.

quote:

Gateway Middle School, an alternative school in the Killeen Independent School District

alternative school = dipshit/eff up school

quote:

He may not follow instructions all the time, but he does have a great heart,”

quote:

Ruelas has been suspended before,

like with Michael Brown, i'll wait till we get all the facts.

KISD still kinda sucks. That remains unchanged.
