Because some may need it.

Now answer my question. You want a hard rule that no felon can receive government assistance?

Good thing you arent then. I prefer my jurys to uphold the laws of the land.

I prefer my jury to assess the situation with common sense.

I'm not going to send a man to prison for years to come because he didn't want to let some punk kid steal his property.

How hard is it to not rob someone at gunpoint or not murder someone? How hard is it not to be a stain on the rest society? Why do felons deserve anything?

If two baws get into a bar fight and it broken up after a few punches are thrown, and then one of the fighters gets in his vehicle and runs over the other fighter, should the driver be able to claim he were just defending himself and the other guy threw the first punch?

It's pretty easy to not do these things.

If you think being convicted of a felony is being a "stain on the rest of society", you need to look at some of the felonies out there.

How many felonies do you think you have committed during your entire life? ETA: On second thought, do you even know what a felony is?

For the third time (the intentional avoidance of the question says a lot), you want a hard rule that no felon can receive government assistance?

Not that I agree, but your scenario doesn't involve property.

Property in our society has higher value than egos.

For example, as Locke said, "Life, liberty and property."

That a-hole Jefferson changed it

And in our society, life has a higher value than property.

frick the armed robber. TPOS. But let's not act like the driver didn't try to end this dude's life over a pair of shoes. Driver didn't even really give a shite about the shoes. He just plowed into the guy, most likely running over the shoes as well. The driver didn't give a shite about the shoes at that point. At that point, he was pissed that the TPOS robber disrespected him and wanted to get him back for it.

If someone stole your bike from out front of your house and is riding away on it, should it be legal to jump in your car and just run him over?
