They have absolutely NO reason NOT to do those things.

Wouldn't you?
As far as breaking cellphones, Motorla and Verizon sure as hell did it with my Droid X. Prostitutes!!

Well I guess it is good to see things have not changed in telecom

It is amazing the profiles you can build based off people's call patterns. We first started with simple win-back programs, targeting people most likely to return. Then we were able to pivot to proactive retention and plan adjustment. Cutting edge back in the day

After MGMT saw legit benefit they invested more money to add demographic data and it got even more targeted and customized.

Data science is amazing, just scary as hell.

Well most of it is done now at the BTS (Tower // Physical) layer.

I mean you still have your typically SDM (Suscriber Data Management) silos, but there are a few new products inside the core network that do some "interesting" things lol.

When you have to take an NSA workshop and sign a 15 page document, things are definitely questionable lol.

Salesforce is bringing its own big data with machine learning features to the masses. This will allow even smaller companies to "know" you.

Smaller companies can't afford Salesforce, at least not yet.
They are expensive as shite, and you pay for what you get, and it hasnt' helped me out in the least bit since we started using it about a year ago.

If you ask me, I think Salesforce was more interested in our data, than we were in their data. We uploaded all of our accounts and addresses and contact into their system. It's like ancestry.com with them. it's only good as the information you put in it. Now that we've dropped a ton of info into it, i'm sure our competitors can get it, dump their info into it, and then all of our customers can be seen by everyone.

What bothers me most about apple is that I'm happy with my phone/tablet the way it is, I don't want to download and install the update. There is no way to turn off the reminder.

You shouldn't be forced to download software that isn't designed to run on the processor you have. It slows everything down. I don't want a new iPad, I want my current one to last.

Yup, that is how it works .

Salesforce sits on top of an Oracle backend. The databases are abstracted from the users, so you cannot actually get to the DB layer. Your data is stored in just 3 tables and the underlying systems are shared with multiple companies. Salesforce could arrange for similar companies to live together for "mining" purposes.

Salesforce has a connector for PostgreSQL if you want your data in a accessible database. Of course then your PostgreSQL cloud provider has your data as well now

Salesforce is expensive, but it brings a lower TCO with speed of development and minimal administration needed. This is where smaller companies can dive in. You will reduce your human capital spend. System Admins, DBAs and Developers are six digit salaries, you start removing the need for some of them and boom it is cheap.

ETA: Apologies to the OP, sidetracked this thread.

True, but when I say smaller company, i'm talking about a local company that employs maybe 30 people. They don't have system admins and developers and what not, and they aren't going to let their sales manager go and replace him with Salesforce.

I remember our first meeting when we made the switch and I was happy I was going to get some new leads, only to find out the database was exported from our current system. it's amazing how me, a lowly sales guy, figured that out immediately and saw how useless it was for that, yet most others just ignored this fact. We basically use it to manage our quote logs, which if you ask me, is a very expensive way to manage a quote log. My boss's boss asked all the salesman if we would each pay $1,000/yr out of our own money for salesforce. No one said anything then I finally said absolutely not. told him why since it's basically just a quote log, which is a lot nicer than using an excel sheet, but it's not something that is going to help me make $1000 extra dollars a year. I would say that it does make things easier on managers and saves them a ton of time, but it does nothing extra for me. it's just a nice convenience. I know that they pay a whole lot more per person than $1k.

WE HAVE A WINNER! You think the guys selling SalesForce designed it around sales people? Hell no. They designed it to look good and benefit the people who make the decision to buy their program. The mid and upper level managers. It doesn't do jack for the guy at the bottom of the heap.

I spent a short time with the program and called it out as being a waste of my time. Got a lot of crap from management. Then I just started gaming it and making stuff up to put into it each month. Management couldn't have been happier. Didn't matter that it had no relation to what I was doing. They just wanted their little charts and data.

This is a fact. I haven't used it since probably 2003-2004, but I can get on a computer and tell right away if it has Mcafee.

Their #1 goal is to increase profits. They have stockholders to keep happy. So they take advantage of little things like this.

So I know of a program at my company that is going to track people by their phones while in shopping environments. It will track what products you look at and for how long. Many thanks to apple and google for adding features to your phone you never turn off.

Tracking ones online personality and patterns was always easy. Now we can track your physical personality in a passive manner. You do not opt in or out.

This is already in effect at several walmarts and other large retailers via their in-store wifi. Any time you connect, it immediately starts tracking your movements through the store, which aisles you shop in, and what products are in the shelves where you stop in those aisles.

This data is collected by a massive program that then reports back to the HQ to show which items are most viewed vs. bought, what products or sales might be more "eye-catching," what areas of that particular store are more frequented vs. other stores, etc. They then use that info to "customize" the store by moving certain items around, carrying more of the frequent items and less of the infrequent, or more of a certain genre of items. This is why you see some Walmarts with highly extensive hunting sections or larger electronics sections than others, for example.

This is pretty common. Its sort of like asking siri for something (in terms of your phone picking up the words), so if you are close enough to your phone it will identify words. Everything revolves around data.. The more information you feed your device, the better they can target the owner.. more specifically.

That was just round 1. The store was not building a profile for you, but optimizing for their sales based off traffic. Your person was contained in that store and you were just a data point and maximizing product sales was the target.

Now we have moved on where you as an individual is the target and your person is tracked across heterogeneous stores and online retailers. When you go to Kroger soon and stop to look at ketchup, a personal coupon will spit out of machine for a specific brand of ketchup. Why did this happen, because 2 weeks ago you bought some ketchup at Walmart and based off your usage pattern you go through the bottle every 2 weeks and they want to lure you to buy their brand.

Pretty slick stuff, however I prefer people not interfere with my condiment purchases.

You didn't state why they were wrong, you just commented.

I am saying I believe those. Especially the phone updates causing it to go to shite at two. My phones are always great until my contract ends. every time.
