It's dumb that healthcare coverage costs the same for a 20 year old that won't use it as a 50 year old.
It's not, but there are caps on how much more you can charge 50 year olds than 20 year olds. Spreading costs across as large of a population base as possible is a key component of insurance when used as a core safety net for society.
20 year olds vs 50 year olds is at the bottom of the list of all the things that are fricked up about American health insurance schemes.

But it's way easier to fire a lazy asshat that's not in a union.
Its virtually impossible to fire union hands, which is why certain people like Unions.
"Job protection" for the average Joe means they don't want to put in the effort and still retain employment. For managers, its a fricking nightmare.

I have a friend in a union and he hates it. He has been taking up slack for the FMLA abusers and other lazy miscreants for 17 years. He's getting out.

It's the Stakeholder vs Shareholder model. I prefer the latter, and if it's too bad, the workers can just leave.
You're a shitty human being.

This isn’t 100 years ago where unions might have filled a role ensuring worker safety and factory conditions
You should be required to work in some blue collar fields before you're allowed to express an opinion on workplace safety.
I recently worked at a non-union plant for 3 years. My dad spent 37 years working at a plant with an optional union.
I told him some of the stuff and I had seen happen at my plant and he almost didn't believe it.
These big corporations only care about safety until it affects money.

frick your unions.
I actively go out of my way to support companies that aren't hogtied by unions. Miller Lite being one of them. Unions are nothing but gatekeepers and protection for crappy employees.

If you don't understand the stagnation of wage growth for the middle class, then I can't help you.
But it does coincide with a decrease in union participation.

This strike has mostly to do with part time workers.
What percentage of the part time workers are in queue to become full time workers?

And the dumbest thing said in this thread is “UPS use to only hire from a college campus. Was a time most of your UPS drivers had college degrees.”
I guess you worked at a dumb center, or hub.

Unions don't protect good workers. Good workers would have no problem finding jobs. Unions protect the dead weight shitty workers who need to be fired.

Smart to do it during the hottest month of the year.

Yep. Its a club to establish the minimum effort required to to your job, and 90% will do just that.
