they still do. More money isn't the solution today, less cost is the solution.
The arms race keeps going and most people cannot afford it. Continually paying no skilled, lowly educated people for doing work over market value is a recipe for inflation.

I partially paid my way through college on part-time UPS wages loading trucks at night in Port Allen. In 2005, I started at $10/hr and quickly moved up to $12/hour. That was good money for a broke college kid. If you had a decent head on your shoulder, you could move up quickly. They tried to get me to come on full-time after college and move into management. I think they were offended that I replied my dream wasn't to work at UPS.

I'm pretty anti-union, but I do try and see things from both sides. In this case, I have experience on both sides. Part-time work at UPS is hard fricking work. You don't know heat until you've loaded trailers on a muggy, Louisiana July afternoon. Looking up current average preload/sort hourly rates, they're underpaid, imo. Is it strike worthy? Eh, if it were me, I'd just quit and find something else, but then again I've never expected anyone to give me anything.

The way you people think is what drives me nuts many times in these kind of debates.
You make it sound like there or 10 or so old white men sitting around counting money that only they get to keep.
Never mind the bonuses and stock growth, etc for the many thousands who work there or who are retired as well as so many others who invest in the company

But the difference is that unions protect those lazy asshats. This isn’t 100 years ago where unions might have filled a role ensuring worker safety and factory conditions, now they have mostly bankrupted the US Automakers, and driven the costs up on all sorts of other goods and services, while our gubbermint overreach dictates safe working conditions, with regulations preventing anyone being fatigued or working for meanies.
If there are that many of these mental midgets being unhappy making $100K/year with full benefits, let them try to make that elsewhere without any real marketable skills

Again, this talk of strike has nothing to do with the guys making $100k a year. This is strictly a part timer issue. The part timers have been getting screwed on wages for a while. That's the union's fault for allowing it to happen too. But this new guy seems to be trying to change that. Hoffa Jr. did nothing for the part timers.
Also, UPS is refusing to release their quarterly earnings. I wonder why.......

That is total bullshite. In fact, as recently as the late 90’s when most low level management (on road, preload and reload supervisors and center managers) only had high school diplomas. I was hired in 1987 five years after getting a college degree and drove for 10 years before going into management. I was the only driver in my center with a degree. When I was hired, the DIVISION manager was only a HS graduate.
I was there in ‘97 when the IBT struck UPS. Actually, I went on vacation for the first 3 weeks and came back when it was settled. I saw the strike coming a year earlier and basically laughed at some of my co-workers who talked a lot of shite. I knew I’d be OK no matter what happened but plenty of those dumbasses would never find a job with that compensation and benefit package.
isn’t for everyone. They pay top wage and expect the highest standard of productivity, service and safety. A fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay. That’s the fricking deal. Problem is, too many employees want the biggest paycheck in the industry but don’t want to uphold their end of the bargain.

UPS FT drivers aren’t the issue or the ones complaining. This strike has mostly to do with part time workers.
Not the talking points about 100K and benefits ( which is earned thru labor) and is only the top top of earners. To get to 100K you need to be at top pay and making serious OT. So again , Labor creating the wealth.
If your argument is about auto workers from 100 years ago or a few workers that can’t be fired please shut the frick up.

what? the guy you are responding to was making the same point as me.
It's dumb that healthcare coverage costs the same for a 20 year old that won't use it as a 50 year old.
For the 50 year old part timer that healthcare package is well worth it as a substitute to wages. For the 20 year old that doesn't go to the doctor he'd rather just have that $1400 a month over a $1400 month healthcare plan.
