A teacher who says he will not respect transgender students’ pronouns got placed on leave. Now he’s suing.

quote:

“I am speaking out of love for those who are suffering from gender dysphoria,” the Leesburg Elementary School teacher, Byron "Tanner" Cross, said at a recorded Loudoun County school board meeting on May 25, igniting the controversy. “I’m a teacher but I serve God first and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa because it’s against my religion. It’s lying to a child, it’s abuse to a child, and it’s sinning against our God.”

Seems like a pretty straight forward 1st amendment case to me.

Nice...set the table for the 1st Amendment violation right out of the box.

No matter which way you sway on the gender non-issue, I think we can all agree that being suspended for expressing your opinions/beliefs at a public meeting is bull. Isn't the right to express your opinions in a public forum the heart of Freedom of Speech?

Don’t exist. The English language doesn’t suddenly change because one isn’t happy with having a dick.

Liberals despise freedoms of speech and thought even more than they hate the 2nd amendment.

Religious beliefs need to be respected but within reason. Christian bakers should not be forced to make a cake for a gay wedding, but a teacher at a public school should not be able to use religion to essentially insult his transgender students.

That close to DC, there is no chance he pulls a jury that takes his side. If anything the defense could probably counter sue and win.

Assuming he even makes it to court in the first place.

I don't envy being a gym teacher with this. Do you make Ellen/Elliot use the women's or the men's locker room.

You devils love to attempt to bring this up. Besides using religion, where did he insult anyone? Calling a boy a boy or a girl a girl is insulting now, good grief you guys are messed up in the head.

Dude, we're talking about elementary school children! When I was in elementary school, I would have been teasing those little figs every day

You use second person pronouns when you're talking to somebody. Those don't change for gender or number.

Only way this is an issue is if the school is demanding that he use preferred pronouns when the student isn't even there.

If you look like a girl and legally change your name and gender, you can be called she. Otherwise you are just playing dress up.

Forcing people to disregard language to use whatever pronouns you make up is about power and attention. It has nothing to do with gender identity or the well being of anyone. It's a fricking sham and we should be fighting back.

Of all institutions out there, a public one should not have the authority to compel, through threat of force, an individual to speak in a certain manner.

That is the heart of “freedom of speech” and public, not private, institutions should be held to an even higher standard.

In reality religion has zero to do with this.
