I'm still waiting for you to answer the pension question. Can you lay out how that works against you or for you vs Private sectors?

He's already "agreed to disagree" about the total compensation being fair.

He's clueless as to the total cost to employ a teacher.

They’re too high. Babysitters wouldn’t make that much in the open market without govt subsidies.

Yes, it is true, I do contribute to a pension but from my understanding, it is paid out as a one-time thing minus fees. It is something I need to look further into because, well I'm young I haven't thought about it much. If it is 100% the case I need to start planning elsewhere.

How much do you pay in vs your employer? How much do you pay in for health insurance coverage? You make what percentage of your last three years of salary?

So you don't pay SS taxes like private sector? So you can pay yourself and invest better than SS?

I meant is it true that widows receive the dead spouse’s social security. I’m pretty sure it isn’t.

That my last 3 years salaries will account for most of my pension? Which is why many quality teachers leave their Parish for a higher paying Parish at the end of their tenure?

Most teachers game the system. Where else are you guaranteed a percentage of you pay for the remainder of your life?

What about Social Security where I get none

So now you want the government to pay for your retirement twice?

Would you like to pay for SS benefits like the rest of us?

Something like 50% of your spouse's benefits I believe. Don't quote me though.

Most places are 1,000 difference, you would still have to work 20 years to pay off what you spent.

Oxford SD (MS) Pay Scale

Without a doubt. I am at six years with a AAA license. You are at a deficit until about year 10 in the battle between advanced degree than not. My Master's came free (basically) as I was a GA and paid off every time. My Specialist's required my first loan...and I somewhat regret that route. Although I was in school admin and finished, I would be taking a pay cut to become an AP as my teaching plus coaching outweighs admin in MS.

Usually get the greater of their spouse's benefit or their own.

Other than that I get nothing else other than plenty of time off. I can say when I started I spent 50 hours a week if you count what I was actually at school + lesson planning + grading to now 60+ hours because many Parishes are asking more from teachers without any compensation

imagine getting into a profession that does not have a real "raise" but only 100 bucks

My summer this year I'm teaching summer school and working lawncare, not to mention the three weeks of training I need to attend

I can not make a multiple choice test and grade that way. Everything I do is a writing assignment and when I have 80+ writing assignments to grade a week it will take me awhile to accurately grade them

yeah totally, skip the 4+ years you put into school not counting your career and leave your career where you are making 40+k to move to another profession, sounds easy right?

I work 10 months of the year with a 2-week summer training, so I get a 1 month, 2-week vacation during the year. I mean I get 10 days off sick, however, I do not get vacation time + sick days that roll over like many jobs.

A teaching certificate is more than a piece of paper especially as they ask teachers to do more each year.

What vacation?

What about Social Security where I get none

I’m not saying I wouldn’t like to make more, but I knew damn well I wasn’t going to be making big bucks teaching. I do love my job, and married a doctor.

They can be the same thing. You posted a woe is me topic about how hard your job is wiping snot off kids noses and teaching them how to FOIL. Then you answer every question about how awful and mistreated you are, so yes, you are bitching like a 12 year old school girl that Johnny doesn't want to go to the dance with that you have to chaperone.

No one is bitching about their job, one is educating you on how unfair the pay scale is in Louisiana.

How is it unfair? Are you forced to work for a certain employer? Were you led to believe at any point that you would be earning more?

You chose a career that the market doesn’t put a high value on. Sorry.
