As an educator, I can say each year my "raise" is 100 bucks and my "bonus" is based on student scores but usually between 300-500. Other than that I get nothing else other than plenty of time off. I can say when I started I spent 50 hours a week if you count what I was actually at school + lesson planning + grading to now 60+ hours because many Parishes are asking more from teachers without any compensation. Many areas are cutting teachers and replacing them with un-certified individuals and thinking they can just teach from a book.

Yes, many people can learn from a computer, yet if you don't plan on being home pushing your kids you need a teacher who will do that (or sleep with them) but a quality teacher is invaluable, however, many are leaving because they can make more doing other things.

You chose your career, not me.

Correct, I did, however, if they want to increase my workload they should compensate. Either with yearly salary or bonus.

Most places are 1,000 difference, you would still have to work 20 years to pay off what you spent.

I actually thought it would make a little more difference than it does...a thousand bucks per year before taxes is not much of a difference in pay.

LOL that's no one's fault but your own. Even if that's true (it's not) you still work the same number of hours as everyone else per year so stop bitching. It's not like your pay should be a revelation. You aren't an artisan during the industrial revolution.

Move to another state. I don’t understand why teachers bitch about the pay when they knew what they were getting when they signed up.

My wife irks in the school system as a speech pathologist. She took a 45k a year pay cut to work in the school system 9 years ago in order to have the time off and benefits associated with working for the state. I make good money, so it is not a hardship on my family. We love her bee fits for our kids, but it still pisses me off how much money she is losing each year over the course of her career of going to work for the state. I’m glad she’s happy, but pay for teachers is not what it should be. I have no idea how you find the money to pay them with the current state of the LA fiscal budget.

It is what it is, man.

You’ll get shite on here by the salaried engineers and construction managers, but my wife is a teacher and I feel your pain. She works at least 55 hours a week with grading and shite, so the summer off pretty much averages out. She’s got a masters and makes about 43k annually.

They post on TD all day (as do I) and they’ll tell you how lazy you are, but not many here could deal with the stress of being a teacher.

Csb I made $100,000 in bouneses in the military.

Teachers said I wouldn't go anywhere.

Almost finished with my associates and moving on to a university for my bachelor's.

Btw I have no student debt or loans and get paid to go to school.

Teachers...

That can apply to any profession, imagine getting into a profession that does not have a real "raise" but only 100 bucks, most new educators do not know this. Many areas will not explain it which is why teaching has a 4 year burnout rate.

She also does not deal with what many area teachers deal with daily, I'm sure she could tell you stories though.

They actually have plenty of ways to do this, however, no one in power will agree to anything because it means a lower cut for those legislative individuals

My summer this year I'm teaching summer school and working lawncare, not to mention the three weeks of training I need to attend

Any teacher that does this, it is a reflection on them. It doesn't take 15 hours a week to "grade papers and shite." Also, sitting in front of the tv watching My 600 Lb Life on TLC while making sure Jimmy Lipper reduced his fraction isn't working.

That Masters bump is bullshite. In Fairfax County it’s a $5k bump.
