Why didn't you get a degree instead of military? I mean many teachers see this as a career, the military helped support you, you didn't see it as a career. A teaching certificate is more than a piece of paper especially as they ask teachers to do more each year.

Because I know if I did at least 4 years I'd earn the Illinois Veterans Grant and GI Bill. It's called being smart. I did 11, was a SNCO at 9 and wanted change. I now get paid $1960/mo to go to class two days a week. I paid off all my debt and am making time up with my family. I have nice stuff, but I don't need it. I'm comfortable in life and happy.

Sorry you're bitching about your job.

*Fwiw I also have extra income working from home.

You don't get spring break and Christmas break, Thanksgiving break? Fed holidays?

I see maybe you were just looking at vacation. By the way, there are not many and I mean very few private sector jobs that allow you to roll over sick days and Vacation days.

I'm not a teacher and I made more money than you as an intern in college so I disagree. I get 5 weeks off a year, about 10% bonus/ year and work less than you during the week if your bullshite numbers are correct, so I would say I am in fact a lot smarter than you. One thing is for sure, I don't bitch and moan like you do about shite I chose to do.

Yes, many people can learn from a computer, yet if you don't plan on being home pushing your kids you need a teacher who will do that (or sleep with them) but a quality teacher is invaluable, however, many are leaving because they can make more doing other things.

You chose a career where you can be be replaced by anyone with a heartbeat and the mental acuity of a turnip, what did you expect?

What a fool.... No one is bitching about their job, one is educating you on how unfair the pay scale is in Louisiana. Yet you believe because you go to a community college and the military is paying for it you have an understanding.

Congrats I guess.... Nothing wrong with that route as I served for 6 years in the Army. Doesn't make you right or smart though.

I'm not here to fight. Like I said I respect teachers for what they do.

But, everyone knows it isn't a glamorous paycheck.

Thank you for your service.

Wasn't here to be better, just explaining something that most don't know.

I'm still waiting for you to answer the pension question. Can you lay out how that works against you or for you vs Private sectors?

What bullshite numbers? Those come directly from each Parish... although just because you make more doesn't exactly mean you are smarter, I mean frick plant operators make 100-150k

When have I bitched and moaned? Yet you jump in every teacher thread to bitch about teachers, shows me a lot about you actually.

What would you like to know? That my last 3 years salaries will account for most of my pension? Which is why many quality teachers leave their Parish for a higher paying Parish at the end of their tenure?

What about Social Security where I get none, so if I die my spouse gets absolutely nothing wherein every other profession their spouse would still receive benefits.

If you do it right, 47k and almost half the year off isn’t a bad deal.

I know lots of people that work their arse off all year for 35k.

Is this true? My dad died & my mom doesn’t get his social security. Don’t you contribute to a pension instead?
