Great communication skills exhibited by a career educator. I can count on no fingers how many inspired kids have passed through your classroom.
sorry to have hurt your feelings, slick ... you're gonna blame it all on teachers, which reveals a limited thinking ability ... i can count on no fingers the number of children you've inspired yourself ... don't dish it out on the internet if you can't take it ...

Teachers have it rough.
I'm for a Good Student Discount on property taxes. Give the parents a reason to care about the quality of education "earned" by their 3rd grader.
Tie that discount to the same metrics which hold teachers accountable.
(I know, I know... this discriminates against renters and homeless. If they can't get the discount too, they shouldn't have to care about the study habits of their 3rd grader).

eh, the issue isn't that teaches have it rough or don't have it rough ... depends on the situation ... i imagine br schools generally are very difficult working environments ... other than giving the good students w/good parents the ability to segregate by school, no amount of money will change anything ... performance pay won't change a thing for students who are behind unless there's a school unique to their situation ... school choice (real choice, with no bureaucracy controlling it), which is not looked favorably upon by democrats and the rank/file, requires a good bit of upfront funding, which is not looked favorably on by pubs ...

I think teachers (as well as police and military) should be paid high salaries and also made to adhere to very high standards. All of these professions have a direct effect on the quality of the society we live in.

The rough part is that their success requires effort on the part of the student. That is a difficult part of a not-so-difficult job.

I agree. My point is that "better parenting" would change something. Paying the parents is a tongue in cheek way to get that point across.

school choice
I disagree. The effort of the student is the issue in my opinion. The lack of focus on the parent is a cause for the issue.
In my opinion, parents who spend time complaining about school are the problem.
Do you want your kids to read cursive? Teach them cursive.
Do you want your kids to know how to balance a checkbook and file taxes? Teach them.
Do your kids not read well? Read with them.
The idea that a school/government is obligated to take a kid for 8 hours a day and teach them how to be good people is the wrong thought process. It starts at home. And that creates a student who will be more receptive to exceeding standardized teaching and standardized testing.

My point is that quality is already shite because that is already what is happening and people who have no business teaching, well, are.
And people who are hard working good teachers that could have majored in anything end up leaving the profession. I got really sick of busting my arse only to get unneeded pressure from the administration to coach a sport, a classroom of rowdy students with little parental support or disciplinary support, and the constant feeling of being a failure at my job. All while Ms Fat Calves next door gave 30 minutes of notes to copy, 20 minutes of worksheet questions, and a movie every Friday. And she would always get the same pay as me.

My Words:
So go ahead and teach us all about where
Might wanna work on that reading comprehension and retention there, Slick.

Maybe they should use their Union to demand accountability, not just to themselves but to administration, school boards, all of it. A total revamp is required to improve education.

Try reading that a few more times. At no point has he said you are getting paid for the time off. Yet another teacher I’m having to help with reading comprehension.

This board has truly opened my eyes to how stupid people are. I somehow have done a great job of surrounding myself with smart people because the people I thought were dumb look like Einstein compared to some here.
