How long before parents start getting jailtime for yelling at their kids to stop doing something becomes "verbal assault".
I'd say not long. It will be covered under the new bullying legislation, and will be yet another attack on the family and parents trying to raise their kids right. No spanking or it's physical abuse. No lecturing too hard or it's emotional abuse. The trouble is, I'd say those who think this is a good idea are almost certainly projecting their fricked up childhood and parents and thinking that spanking a child means beatings, or lecturing a kid is akin to their getting berated and made to feel like shite for no good reason because their parents were garbage.

That's technically true. You're not supposed to touch a student.

And why public school education is failing us miserably, and an affordable private school system is a much better answer for everyone now and in the future. We need to take our education back, and tell the government to stick it. They had their chance and proved yet again that they can't run a fricking flea circus without screwing it to hell and back.

I want Arnie Duncan and John White to teach some of these kids in ebr and New Orleans for one week each.
No special treatment, just one week of observed teaching.

The only reason I can see the no touching thing being Ok is because it does protect the student from actual abuse.

The good old days were 1975. I was riding a school bus as a 1st grader back in the day in a little country town. Some older kid was giving me shite and wouldn't stop, so the bus driver pulled over, took out something that wasn't much smaller than a boat oar, and went
on the little bastard. Nobody had problems with him again the rest of that year on the bus.

I hear ya, but I had the back of my hair and ears used to pull me out of class, palms and knuckles cracked, butt spanked with paddles, and was embarrassed in front of class for it all, and it taught me valuable lessons in life... Where there is a negative behavior on my part, there is a negative consequence for that behavior to follow, so don't partake in negative behavior and you won't face those consequences, the worst of which was the teasing from my peers for acting like a dumbass in the first place. That is what awaits kids in life, so teach them those lessons when they're young and you do them a big favor by stopping them from repeating bad behavior when they become adults.

I had a teacher in highschool who would grab boys whose shirts were untucked in and actually tuck them in himself.

quote:There needs to be discretion involved. I have no problem with a teacher putting there hands on a student. If the situation calls for it, which I believe this one did, by all means grab the kid and make him tuck in his shirt. As long as the kid doesn't need medical attention as a result of being manhandled by the teacher it should be allowed.

I know what ya mean.
When they're fighting, you're actually not supposed to touch them to break it up. You're supposed to tell them to stop, lmao, and then call for an admin.

One question I havent seen answered in all of this was.. Who called the police? I would like to hear their story on why that call was made.

Thank God I am now a retired teacher. This kind of crap is one of the reasons. And people wonder why we can't get good teachers.

on the little bastard.
Yeah I cussed out the bus driver when I was in elementary school. I should have gotten whooped but he didn't do anything and I just stayed off the bus. Look at me now. I could've been a doctor but I was undisciplined. I blame my life on my bus driver. DAMN YOU MR. COLUMBUS!!!!! YOU ARE MY BANE IN LIFE!!! God I hated that man.
end rant

Oh, you mean the "my little angel would never do that" parents?
I wonder if the word "Parents" isn't a bit of a reach when you get down to it.

I had a parent call the cops on me last year. I was unaware at the time it was going on, the mother walks into the office with a sheriff and tells the officer she wants me arrested "for something." This is a few days after she threatened to 'slap the shite out of me' over the phone. The officer laughed in her face and thankfully i have a good administration team and they kicked the kid out of our school.
