I hate how this country is so wrapped up in perception of being PC that we become pussies.

I remember growing up wondering if my parents would sign the permission slip to allow my arse to get spanked then seeing the huge paddle the principal had. I never got in trouble. Was common to see a kid grabbed by the ear. The parents didnt want to know why their kids ear was grabbed they wanted to know what their kid did to determine if their butt got beat later.
Exactly right... I remember it well.
And what kind of message does this send to people considering the teaching profession?
I'll tell you exactly what the message is..loud and clear. Don't go into the teaching profession or you're fricked, will be held accountable for maintaining discipline but stripped of the ability to do so, blamed for when a kid graduates and has all the education of a 5th grader, and paid garbage pay for it to top it all off.
frick that, is what most people say, and for damn good reason too.

so all the police had to go off of was the students account.
The student decided to take a physical route by forcing himself into the classroom. What the hell is the teacher supposed to do.......he was in violation of school rules, rules he or his parents got a handbook on and he violated, he should have been yanked in the hall, and his parents should pay a hefty fine for raising a terd.

I know it's been beaten down but I do belive teachers aren't paid enough to deal with this kind of shite.

there was no permission slip when I was in school, he just spanked you. The paddle never scared me though, and I was introduced to it plenty. Every kid is different. But I will be damned if a kid should be able to blatantly disrespect a teacher or other student and serve no consequence at all.

Not to mention you could actually get arrested for trying to maintain discipline in an unruly environment of middle school kids with no discipline at home either.
There isn't enough money to be quite honest. Well, maybe 6 figures, and I'll endure for a bit and play the game watching kids become hopelessly lost for the rest of their lives, that is, until my conscience began to eat at me at nights to where I just couldn't take it anymore.

Correct, I think that teachers are paid about right if all they had to do was teach...taking care of all the little deviants dominates there time and probably creates a large portion of the workload.
These ill behaved kids are not the norm. But now you got some little princes and princesses that have never been told no in their life and think they can get away with anything.

And on top of allof that, now she has an arrest record which will make it difficult to find another job should she leave.

This country is soooooo fricked.
We are spiraling out of control with the PC/pussification of America movement.
Reading stuff like this is really infuriating. I remember when I was in high school, a teacher (former U.S.Marine) kicked a metal trash can accross the classroom hitting an innocent student (not hard) and then proceeded to threaten to murder the student that had him pissed off for making a comment about his ex-wife. We also had football coaches that would break up fights by body slamming the students involved. No action was ever taken against these teachers and coaches, nor should it have been taken. That's just the tip of the iceberg of the things that went on when I was in school. I couldn't be a teacher or a coach in this day and age. The level of pussification of kids these days amazes me and I graduated in 2002. How in a little over 10 years have things changed so much. It's really sickening to think about.

I believe that teachers are the backbone for this country. The doctors, lawyers, politicians were taught by teachers. If the prospect of being a teacher is hardship and low pay, why would anybody good want it?
I know a few friends that are teachers that don't want to do it anymore because of stuff like this.

I can agree that they are equally important. The teacher IS the parent during school and the parent has the responsibility afterwards.

I know there is all kinds of police hate on the OT but stick with me for a second. I think the blame is better placed elsewhere.
First, IF this was a situation that the school felt needed a response, then the teacher should have been dealt with professionally. For instance, a verbal counseling by the Principal or a day off or a letter in her file. But arrest? If she had been holding the kid on the floor delivering a Ground and Pound then that is one thing.
WHY were the police called? Who called them? For a shirt pull?
I can't actually get after the police too much at this point. Once they are called, they kind of have to do something. This is almost like the Principal was covering his/her arse by calling them and putting it onto them. I totally understand the police chief not being willing to take the fall for this. This is classic bureaucratic arse covering in my eyes. "Hmmm...If I call the police then whatever they do or don't do is on them and I am golden. Yeah, that's a great idea."
I think the anger of the OT needs to be pointed at whomever called the police (presumably her supervisor).

How long before parents start getting jailtime for yelling at their kids to stop doing something becomes "verbal assault".

What was the students account? I cant find any angle that was presented where there should have been a jailable offense.
I get you...Im not condoning it just that then police for whatever felt they believed the students account and arrested the teaher. Maybe the teacher qanted to wait until a union rep arrived?
As an earlier person posted, the police being called is insane. Leads me to believe the student gave a worse account than whats being reported.

I think 99% of my teachers growing up would have a record today if this type of stuff were enforced.
I did the same thing to a kid in EBR a few years back when he was about to fight. The parent came up to the school to bitch and moan.
Looking back on the whole teaching experience in ebr now, I'm fairly appreciative. Basically, anything I do from here on out, short of standing in front a firing squad, will be a pleasure.
Thanks EBR.

“She snatched him, physically yanked him very hard. A teacher has no authority to do that,” Knaps said Thursday night.
If thats the Police Chiefs story then that has to be the kids story. That = Jail time?
