My issue with it is the abuse of a power dynamic. I teach, and if you do the job well students respect you and may seek you out for advice/guidance.

Teachers who use this dynamic to obtain sexual gratification are scumbags whether or not their victims "like it"

I’m slowly starting to think that all high school teachers male and female are pedophiles. We probably only find out about 20 percent of relationships between teachers and students.

Nope it’s really like 0.01% it’s just brought to light on the OT every single time one happens so it seems like a lot.

Unacceptable as a parent but as a male we all put ourselves in the students shoes and remember those days. Hilarious if you ask me.

I used to agree with this but now that I have teenagers I no longer do.

Some kids are very grown up by 15-17, some are still just kids. Even if they are mentally mature for their age, they are physically and emotionally naive and do not need to be in romantic relationships with older people.

So teenagers without fully developed brains, who are now exposed to constant psychological manipulation, are now more responsible for pedophiles abusing them?

This board loves blaming actual victims.

No, even if you perceive it as such. Maybe they're just more mature relative to your other experiences with that age group.

The buck stops at the teacher shouldn’t be hooking up with students. The other shite you said doesn’t matter. I work in this environment. It’s not hard to say no unless you have issues.

Wish my high school Spanish teacher would have cared this much about my grades.

In today’s social media and technology world, both 15-17 year old girls and boys know exactly what they are doing in these cases.

How does this have so many upvotes? I thought most of you baws were parents.

Look man, it has nothing to do with whatever you imagine is the thought process or motivation of the minors involved. We don’t let minors make these kinds of decisions. Period. If you, as a grownup, spent some time around humans in this age group, it would be obvious why. This is as bad an argument as saying “well, he can read and write and he likes money so why can’t I enter into a contract with him”?

And in this case, it’s amplified by the shitty adult who is in a position of authority and is charged with the supervision of the minor she’s humping. It’s bad no matter the circumstance or how hot the “OT hard-leggers” think she is.

I really think it's a form of arrested development. They go from high school to what's now a glorified high school (college) and end up immediately back in high school. Pedo is definitely a strong word for situations like this and I don't think it qualifies. I don't think it's something these teachers would ordinarily do, really. In no way does that make it right, but problems aren't going to be solved by treating it the same way as a creepy ice cream man

I think there might be something to this (based on what my wife tells me about younger staff at her HS). According to her, a lot of her younger colleagues operate a lot like the students in the building.

But…most of these people are not early-20 something’s. At least not the ones posted here. If it’s a 30-40 yo with a spouse and kids then they do not get any benefit of the doubt.

Oh I think that’s exactly what needs to happen.

I’m about as pro-woman as this board has to offer but they wanted work-place equality, well this is what it should look like.

And I get it, it’s most likely “easier” for a woman to slip down this awful slope (all she has to do is float the idea versus a man who probably has to do some creepy grooming). But the end result is the same and should be dealt with accordingly.

Oh I don't mean the punishments should be less. I meant more of the preventative measures that should be taken. What those are? No idea, but it's a very different phenomenon

Everyone acts as if this is something new. When I was 17 in 1981 my best friend was railing the drama teacher who was 32 at the time on a weekly basis. This has been going on for a long time, it's just the social media that's made it look so prevalent.

This is a big part of it. Lots of women these days don't grow up mentally. They essentially never get over their "party" years. They may get older, they get married, they start families, but deep down a few of them miss being young, single, and a hot commodity amongst the guys. I think many of them are banging these high school dudes in an effort to feel young and desirable again.
