I don't give a frick their intentions.. Donating any amount of money is more than the majority and should be encouraged.. Not judged.

Good for her. Sandra Bullock has donated a million to New Orleans in the past.

I respect them both for it. They don't have to do anything. It deserves recognition.

Sure, it is great if she put this out there to encourage others. I'm just wary of those that advertise their good deeds.

I tend to agree with that sentiment, however -- national coverage of this disaster has been very limited. That can really restrict the amount of donations that typically come from sources outside the affected areas.

A celebrity, especially someone like Swift, has a reach of tens of millions of people. That type of exposure will have a huge positive impact on monetary donations for disaster relief.

This is a perfect example of a celebrity using their status and following for a good cause.

Let's just say you make $50k a year, and give $100. That's .2% of yearly income.

If she gives $1mil, and that's .2% of her income, she would be bringing in $500 billion a year.

So, no, it's not like you giving $100.

As of 8/10/16, Taylor Swift’s net worth is $309 million. Our Taylor Swift net worth figure comes from a detailed study of the star’s music sales, concert tours, acting, endorsements, taxes and expenses.

1 million is about 0.32% of her net worth. So that would be mathematically equivalent to a person with a 1 million dollar net worth donating $3,236.

But as far as disposable income not needed to live a normal life, it's much easier for her to come up with the $1 million than an average Joe forking out $3236.

It's very generous on her part.

Wow, there's some miserable fricks in this thread. Someone donates a million dollars and people still find a way to shite on them.

Get her and Selena in the same room and we'd make feet for children's stockings.

people are complaining about a 1m donation?

jesus christ, don't take it then.

for all of the national attention that you've been begging for the last few days, you'd think having a star like swift donating would be welcomed.

but no, not this board. not some of these miserable fricks. be fricking grateful for once.
