Checking in. Tandem rider Endymion, the people of nola showed the love even after we couldn't throw any more.Everyone thanked us, blew kisses and wished us well. The vast majority were genuinely saddened over the tragic event and oddly seemed to come together in shared sorrow. Everything was put into perspective by all.

Bacchus announced they will comply with the order. I guess we will just have a tractor pull each section? Such a ridiculous overreaction.

I assume the city will waive the maximum number of floats for this but could see that being a pop up issue today

First accident involved a float moving after stopping.

We are going to fill the streets with inexperienced tractor drivers tomorrow so we can all be safer!

This is a point no one is bringing up.

It’s not exactly easy to drive these floats and navigate around all the turns and trees and idiots. Anyone who knows a tractor driver who pulls floats knows they love doing it and many of them have been doing it for years.

The city is going to be absolutely slammed with breakdowns, stoppages, inexperienced drivers, etc tomorrow. I would be scared if I was a marching in front of an inexperienced driver who doesn’t understand that you have to pay attention to the road not the crowd.

Here is the real issue that contributed to both deaths. The NOPD is making the floats go faster because they can’t get overtime and they will ticket the float drivers if they stop.

the parades have been moving noticeably faster this year

Every single one had to have its own tractor/driver. We had a few spares and Kern provides the rest. Our driver got a call at 6am that morning about driving.

we saw a driver who couldn't figure out how to take the tractor out of neutral. someone in the crowd had to help him out

I wanted to follow up on my own post about potential inexperienced tractor drivers with something I witnessed last night.

The guy driving the Bacchasaurous float took the wide turn at Napoleon and St Charles but never re centered the float and the side of the float was over the neutral ground curb for almost a half block between up until Gen. Pershing.

People standing on the curb were leaping back out of the way.

This guy almost rolled over 20 people.

Cops were running, all out sprinting to get this drivers attention.

The guys on the float could have reached out and touched the telephone pole.

This driver was new, drunk, tired, asleep or all of the above.
