I'd seriously avoid bringing two 5 month old infants to a tailgate in early September. Stay home and watch on TV. You and your wife and kids will be miserable.

for a 5 month old just get a blanket and some toys and let the kid play with some toys on the ground

Like I said earlier. It isn't a normal tailgating experience pre-babies. It's just a family reunion tailgate outside the normal "drinking" tailgate areas. If it helps, think of it like just a regular outside event with family.
Also this is at Miss State. Not as big of a tailgate scene as LSU.

yeah this is the first season I bring my son to baton rouge

Took my 4 year old to the games last year, and he did great tailgating and at the games and is excited about it this year. That being said, not planning to take him to Baton Rouge until he turns 60.

We used a pack and play last year for my daughter. We have 6 tents, so we had plenty of room for it. Just be sure to bring a fan because eventually they will be ready for a nap.
