Doing a rewatch of True Detective. In the first episode, Marty (Woody Harrelson), while observing Rust’s isolate behavior, went to Rust’s nearly empty apartment and later said that, “Past a certain age, a man without a family can be a bad thing.”
honestly, a lot of this is just social conditioning
the modern male (as presented by media and other outlets with a political bias) is a sloppy, hopeless doofus.
TD kind of turned this extreme (but Rust was an extreme guy)
it's like when a guy gets a gf and everyone talks about how he's been domesticated b/c his place of living in is "matching" and has all sorts of pointless, excessive decor around. these are just tropes

it certainly could be a bad thing in certain scenarios
the idea that married men or men with families make the best employees because they have the pressure to provide, thus perform, is very common in the work place

In the South there is definitely a certain stigma. Probably around 30 is strange.

Just so we're clear....
You're asking a real life question based on a really twisted character in a fricked up television series?

I'm 59, single and very content and happy with my life so I disagree with your statement.

It’s one thing if you’re a recluse, and another if you’re in a highly demanding profession that also requires a lot of free time to attend social events and things of that nature

I think you should worry more about why this garners your attention than what A fictional character said in a fantasy crime drama.
Nothing wrong with art challenging your perspective, motivating you, causing you to question things, or otherwise stimulating your mind.

Divorced or just never married? My dad is 70 and single. Has been since the late 80s
