Used to have a rope swing hanging in my cousins backyard in Pierre Part that would land us in a bayou.
Water was gross, but it was fun. Stopped doing it after they shot a 10 foot gator

was skiing in some bayou west of Lafayette one day, long time ago, hell it might have been the intercoastal, and a tug pushing a couple of barges comes by, opposite direction, had signs all over it saying "Benzine! Cancer Hazard" all over it, we used to see dead cows floating, gators, snakes, cars, just about everything, good times

Spent my entire childhood and teen years swimming in bayous, neighborhood swimming pool was the sewage ditch after a good rain, you’d put a board on the edge of the ditch and come running from the street, jump on it, and see how far you could skim down the ditch. Mid 40s me swims in swimming pools and that’s it, I don’t even go in the water at the beach unless it’s to get rid of the last 3 beers I just drank

Have an uncle that said he would swim across false river with his clothes in a milk jug to keep them dry. Put em on when he crossed and go to work.
The only part of this story that isn't believable is that he fit his clothes into a milk jug.
I swam in some bayous when I was a kid and didn't give a shite. As an adult, I can't see any reason why I would need to purposely swim in a Bayou

Yes, and water skiing in the bayou. I'm not talking some snake infested small bayou, but talking a more rapid water moving, some gator around, type bayou, lol!

When I was growing up, we used to go "down the bayou" to my grandma's all the time and swim in the bayou. We'd see snakes an alligators and shite, we didn't care.. If we were having fun it didn't matter... One of my cousins stepped on and got stung by a catfish 3 times in one day. He didn't want to go tell his momma because he thought she would make him get out the bayou.
I can swim, but not a long distance.. But there were times.. During the winter when the other kids would pull sticks, the two with the shortest and to swim to the other side of the bayou. They would be so cold, that they would look for someone to bring them back instead of swimming back to the other side. Now the water in that bayou is more stagnant so I doubt it would be a good idea to get in it today on a regular basis..

I remember as a kid, I was swimming in the bayou and it suddenly hit me "what about the snakes?!" My uncle told me don't worry about the snakes, the gators scare them away. And I was fine with that.
We were probably in the same bayou...

Might swim but NEVER skinny dip.
Pulled up a stringer of catfish one night that one of these bad boys had gotten ahold of.
I won't be dangling any meat in front of one.

I wanna know what Bayou you are referring to as DTB?

Grew up swimming in Bayou Corne. Now I am not even swimming in the petri dish of a public swimming pool much less a bayou.
This was me and all of my cousins. The amount if injuries we "walked off" to not tell our parents is legendary.
