I always thought the same thing about Bon Jovi

You’re not a cowboy, you're John Francis Bongiovi and you’re from Jersey.

i have swam in bayous my whole life. The drawback is that you always have to keep moving because none of them have a good bottom to walk on. Muddy, oysters or debris. Hard to find a good sand bottom.

All bayou's are not created equally.

Bayou Desiard - yes.

Bayou Boeuf - no

Anybody growing up in the 70's, 80's or earlier in South Louisiana swam in some questionable water spots. Whether it be the bayou's , rivers or anything that had water.
Looking back on it i'm amazed we all survived

Swam in the north pass more times than I can count. Alcohol was usually in play though.

All it takes is that one errant brush against your leg by an unknown, underwater creature. Then you can walk on water

Me too. It was either swim in the bayou or go to a public pool like Swazey or Cheminahault. The bayou seemed the more sanitary option to my kid self.

Spent 2 summers in Atchafalaya basin just north of Morgan City doing seismic work. Much of it on foot but all of it hot as well. When we hit bayous or cuts the water was cooler deeper. Pretty common to go for a swim and down to bottom where the cool water was. Would I do it now? Probably not but at the time it was perfectly normal.

When I was growing up, I would wakeboard & ski on the Tickfaw and other waterways, and while I was waiting to be pulled up, I would always wish my dad would get the boat going a little faster.

Went kayaking here on the Estero "river" (more like a bayou, leading to the gulf) and my friends were shocked when I got in the water. It's not very deep and apparently gator infested.

Yes, of course.

IMO, categorically refusing to swim in bayous should be grounds for man card forfeiture.

I did as a kid through my early 20's. Then I discovered what "nutria itch" is. That was the last time.

Yes, all the time before I was 20 & thought I was invincible. Now? I have zero desire to swim in water that I can’t see what’s lurking in the water. Last time I was in the river I had the heebie-jeebies the entire time.
