There were a lot of well off looking middle aged moms in the city. Makes sense

Those numbers are not a good indicator of a shitty economy. It is a great indicator the reason so many bitch about it. Bad spending habits. $1300 for 1 night of Taylor Swift yet bitching about a $4 gallon of milk. Priorities.

That makes no sense

You can’t complain about insanely high prices if you spend some money on entertainment?

Again, where do they come up,with the other 240 million

It’s called the multiplier effect. Go look it up.

The $240M does not stop once it is spent (once) in the city. You pay an Uber driver, he spends it on groceries. The hotel payers employees, then they pay for drinks on the way home. The artist that sold a painting pays his drug dealer.

The total amount spent that they are referring to is financial impact of the “new money” spent in an area. It is now in circulation in that area.

This has been the norm for a long time.

Most modern Americans live to be entertained, not find meaning.

People have an unhealthy obsession with Taylor Swift. Idk if I’ve ever seen a fanbase absolutely worship a famous singer like swifties do.

Not new at all. They are just more visible because of social media. Beetles, Elvis, Oprah, Beyoncé, Trump all have a cult following. It ebbs and flows. Someone soon will take her place.

The timeline for the Superdome is ticking. Within the next decade or 15 years, New Orleans and the State are going to have to build a new facility.

The Superdome is a historically protected building. Ever since Katrina. Might be something to do with it.

UNO (which has a pretty good HRT program) did a study years ago that questioned the "economic impact" numbers that people were using to justify big events and their costs. Big events like Super Bowls, Final Fours, etc., not so much concerts.

Anyway, they looked at certain assumptions that people made like 100% occupancy of rooms. People were attributing the entire 100% to the event when in reality, NOLA would 80-85% on just about any given weekend, big event or not. That's just one example.

Since then, I tend to view these numbers with skepticism.

No doubt TS brought a healthy number with very little additional expense to the city.
Tourism is the only thing NOLA has to offer in terms of industry so it's good to see when things go well.

I had never seen MSY so crowded as when we flew in Sunday evening. I think I read it was the most passengers to ever pass through in one day. Good news, even with the crowd, there was no line for the Men’s room. Gf wasn’t so lucky.

The same could be said for diehard football fans that come when their team is in the Super Bowl.

They sold 200,000 tickets, but there were probably 200,000 more people who came to NOLA to tailgate in the hopes of getting tickets but didn’t. They still spent their share of money while they were there.

Yall can say whatever you want about her music and her personal life but there’s no denying that her 3 nights in Nola bringing in $500M is one of the biggest wins the state has seen in a long time.

Then if that weren’t enough she donates 75k meals to the food bank of South Louisiana.

Let’s not forget her help she gave after the 2016 floods in Br.

Again you can dislike her music or whatever but she deserves respect for what she’s done for Louisiana.
