I still think it was a dumb shot.

I bet the two hostages thought it was fricking awesome. These guys train all the fricking time for shite like this event. They know their weapon systems and what they are capable of doing. They train shooting through barriers as well.

Have you guys done a lot of testing shooting rifles through computer monitors or something?

Yes. Into, through, and off of anything and everything you can think of.

Not much inside a computer monitor that's heavy enough to alter the trajectory of a 175gr projectile, especially at that range

Watch the video again.

That round was subsonic meaning it was heavier than 175gr

Meanwhile, the guy used as a bipod for the shot was heard saying… HUH? WHAT? For the next 10 days.

The balls on the guy. Your career and life is over if you hit the hostages.

It's an easy shot

Hey moron, it's a 30' shot through a monitor into the guy's forehead between two other hostage's heads all while using the other guy's shoulder to steady the gun under an intense amount of pressure. You couldn't hit the swat guy standing in front if the sniper. Move along....

Whoever down voted didn’t watch the video with sound or is just dumb.

That round was clearly subsonic.

WTF are you talking about?

168gr or 175gr is the standard Black Hills .308 match round. There are plenty of other variants from other manufacturers, most of which are around that. It might have been a little heavier, but "sub-sonic" has nothing to do with it.

The rifle was canned, btw.

And in your expert trained sniper opinion, was the best way to address this situation? Look, I've got no problem with that guy getting made dead but it's a risky shot no matter how you look at it. Too many variables the shooter can't control.

Don't you think the guy taking the shot, who knows that rifle and round better than anyone else, who is trained for those situations, who has likely shot into, through, and off anything you can think off...who has others on the scene advising and giving a go-ahead...don't you think that juuuuuuuuust maybe...they know better than you?

You’re going to out your troll account if you keep it up. It’s easier to hit a few posts in a thread then back out

Maybe, maybe not. I mean they're just cops. It's not like seal team 6 was in there.

~50ft shot with zero environmental variables; hostage on the left was well clear; the female was 10"-12" to the right of suspect's center head at the time of the shot. The medium was a non-concern.

It would actually be pretty tough to miss that shot. Circumstances notwithstanding, that was probably the easiest shot he'll ever make.
