Let me predict how this will go:

-It will start off very popular with the affluent white crowd in BR that jumps balls deep into anything new and exclusive. Add the Brandon Landry connection and this will be intensified. They will have amazing staff, management etc. They will enforce a strict dress code and reservation policy to keep it classy. It will kill it and make tons of money for say the first year.

-Next the affluent will latch onto something new and SC will start being more available and popular to the average BR crowds. The amazing staff will leave to go follow the next hot affluent crowd obsession so they will start hiring mediocre wait staff, bartenders, kitchen staff, management etc. They will start to lax on dress code and reservations bc they need to make money. It will still be making money and busy, but going downhill.

- Next the bottom of the BR barrel will get their claws into it expecting some amazing 5 star experience that they read about on facebook the year before and it will not be that experience. They will get beat down with complaints, demands, unruly customers, fights, parking lot party fb videos, social media controversy etc. This will make it a miserable place to work for management, staff etc.

- Next it closes, another one of BR's less exclusive entrepreneurs opens it up as something else and it lasts about half the 3 years it lasted as SC, and eventually it ends up a chinese buffet.

The BR story. A tale as true as time

Sadly, this is probably a pretty dead on accurate prediction. That's not a knock on Landry and his group. It's just the population, demographics, and socio-economic status of BR isn't fit to support such a place long term. BR people with money are just as happy to hang out on the patio at Superior Grill than regularly dine at a posh nightclub-esque restaurant (even if the food is great). This is still a pretty blue-collar town.

Some of you are sad pieces of shite

Something new and different opens in BR and y’all’s first instinct is to shite all over it and wish for it to fail

I’m sure y’all would have preferred another deep fried seafood place

Assume this will be the Vegas Club model. It's only meant to last for so long on purpose.

Then they'll change the concept at the property to something else new, but more approachable.

Given who's funding this thing, this seems patently obvious.

That's not even so much a knock on him as it is on anyone who will think they have some big 'gotcha' on him, when the place shutters in 2-3 years.

If that is the plan going in, pretty smart by Landry. Redesign it every 2 years to keep the affluent crowd interested. Seems like it would be a continuous heavy investment though.

I hope it does well. I'd love to have an elite upscale place in BR. In order for that to happen, they're really going to have to buck the trend, though. It's hard to generate buzz, capitalize on it, and then sustain it over an extended period while still maintaining top-tier quality and experience throughout. I remember a few years back when Soji opened there was quite a bit of buzz and hoopla, and it's slowly faded into mediocrity.

Haha, sounds a lot like the story of the Melting Pot. In all seriousness, I hope this place does well and I enjoy eating at high end places but it's hard for me to get over the cheesy vibe that I'm getting from this concept. Rather than having a DJ, maybe get a guy on a piano and put all your waitstaff in in coat/tie. Get away from the club/swinger party vibe, but that's just me.

These are two policies I can definitely support.

This is some millennial nostalgia for an era that they never experienced.

I hope for the best. I think Landry has found a good formula here for success. It's semi-exclusive, and will eventually require membership after the soft opening is done. But it's also pretty small and doesn't require a huge crowd to keep it going. And there's a small area for live entertainment.
