Of course no one will be able to predict if that would happen for you specifically, but it's certainly possible for someone to follow that path.
Not only did it not work, it worked the exact opposite, for 30 years.

But if it's working for you I'd encourage you to stick with your current Christian value framework.

Thanks brother

Why would you do that? You'd be missing the metaphor

I don't mean I still wouldn't be a good person. I'd continue to not cause people harm, be the best dad and husband I could be. Life of pain could have been said differently. I just feel much better now that I'm a Christian and have a hard time explaining it on here.

Glad I didn’t know you back then.

Because you vote Libertarian, do Cross-Fit, are Vegan and are saving the planet, you are better than all of us.

Thanks for posting here, we REALLY need your example.

If you have no personal accountability religion won't save you. If you need religion to teach you personal accountability then you should certainly do that.

I dont see any faults in how your arrive here. I just said my personal path. Everyone has and needs their own.

I would live about the same as now too. Things don’t change, you still have to pay bills, eat sleep etc

Golden rule. Treat others how you wish to be treated. Wouldn't change a thing for me.

Not sure I have ever been accused of any of those things. Especially on this board.

Humans bastardize basically everything they touch.
Yes, and the more they do, the more we feel compelled to pull away from those things or avoid them completely.

I do some of those things you listed. And don’t do some of the others.

C.S. Lewis said something along the lines of "the existence of counterfeit money doesn't mean that the real stuff doesn't exist".
Ok but what if it was like 80% counterfeit and 20% real money?

Then I’d be wondering what the hell is the real money here?

Firstly, I'm happy to hear that you've since found something that brings peace and stability to your life.

I do think it's important to remember that atheism isn't a moral/ethical code onto itself, and nihilism and narcissism aren't an inevitable result, even if [not saying it was] that was your experience and outlook during your time as an atheist.

Because deep down they know morality is loosely connected to religion and if God isn't real then fricking children must be okay.

Really terrifying to hear what goes on in some of ya'lls heads

Well the Bible says the the path is narrow and to work out your salvation with fear and trembling so it would be up to you to do the work to figure that out for yourself.

Makes you learn personal accountability.

It allows you to take no personal responsibility as there is no need for integrity. None of it matters, right?

You don't get forgiveness by asking for it. It's a gift. You don't earn or do anything to get it. It's just there because of someone else's love. That's called grace. You just have to accept it.

when someone decides that there is not afterlife,it is very likely that his moral boundaries disappear, because at that point nothing matters but his own enjoyment and will.

I've had girls make passes before that my wife wouldn't have known about, but because of my faith I had made the decision years prior that I wouldn't go down that road.
Hope that answers the question

The first place I go in this situation is my wife/spouse/partner.

If Jesus is why you aren't engaging then you just lack respect for the person you are with. You need Jesus to tell you to respect someone you should already respect.

fwiw, those are the kinds of comments/attitudes that give Christianity a bad name.
Noooope. I matched energy with energy.

I smell what my former brother in Christ is stepping in, and I would speak to a cradle atheist in a completely different manner, but this is someone who was at one time in the church, and if you're not a Christian/former Christian, then you can't speak on it.

I had the exact opposite experience: I didn't fall from a belief of the afterlife to no belief, but from a non-belief to a belief of it. Vacation Bible school was a daycare relief in the summer. There was no God - not that my young little boy self could see - because my childhood was horrific and tragic, but now, after Christ, I'm thankful for my trauma because I had it better than many.

To say that your athiesm makes you, and I quote, "a good person," and gave you, and I quote, "personal accountability," is ridiculous: Jesus Christ was not holding you back from being your better self, YOU WERE. No religion is going to make you a better version of yourself and give you personal accountability. Not one.

Jesus Christ is not an ATM, So let's not blame our shortcomings on Him. None of you all do it to Muhammad or Buddha out of respect, so don't do it to my God.

Integrity is all I have. Judgement in today and now, not the person I repent to on my death bed.

Fwiw, I'm not an atheist. I believe we came from something that created us. Whether it is a spak in pocket lint or some devine creator I have no idea.

Nothing I have seen in my life has ever been unexplainable nor caused me believe some greater being is pulling the strings. Without a doubt no one is grading me on hownI perform over 65 years or how an infant performs over 3 minutes before death.
