River pilots need some remedial training. That is not supposed to happen.

Someone teach Mark to operate his Android phone.

Better yet...get him over to the OT and let us challenge him to a Sonic meet and greet.

Waiting for this to happen to the Horace Wilkinson bridge. You know it's a matter of time.

This is the second time in less than a year--I crossed about two weeks ago and all lanes were still not opened.

As someone who worked on a dock for nearly 4 years I can tell you that ship skirting into that column is serious business. The momentum of those massive vessels can’t be explained unless you see it up close and personal.

I would routinely guide ships in to berth and even with constant communication with the river boat captain and tug captains and minimum to even zero thrust on their engines, any bump against our dock would shake the shite out of it and often times frick up the wooden support beams lined throughout the dock. Any length of shutdown of the bridge wouldn’t surprise me.

I just checked the AIS trac it and he literally just left Motiva at 13:13..I wonder if he lost power? The assist tugs were all around him....or maybe he just get get enough power going to guide himself being that he was fully loaded heading down river

For you all saying Motiva, I’m thinking you mean Shell.

Pretty much same thing. Motiva was a JV and shell just bought the whole thing if I remember right

What’s the problem here? The Captain successfully made it between the obstacle course. It’s not like he hit it dead in right? LOL

Seriously though, Is it me or did the bridge shake on the second impact?

I'm pretty sure a similar situation happened to one of Crowley's tankers coming out of Marathon a few weeks ago. It just hit a barge fleet instead of a bridge

If he was at Shell, they 100% got screwed up in the maneuver to spin the ship around to head downriver. That’s a pretty tight window to get that down. They likely didn’t head enough upriver enough to get turned around and on a good path.
