I used to pay attention to Southern a bit when I first moved to Baton rouge. I was young and liked college football.
I realized how much poorly they were run and even the middle class families were sending their kids to LSU when they were Southern Alumni.

They've gotten a pass just because the chicks there are so hot.

There are high schools better than SUNO.

If this wasn’t so sad it would be funny as hell. First off, the numbers are terrible- 5% graduation rate, 2700 total enrollment, etc.
Couple that with a limited curriculum and students that aren’t prepared for college in the first place and you have a disaster.
( Offering a dual enrollment in engineering with UNO makes me laugh...seems like a total waste of resources. Just go to UNO. They are only 2 miles apart !)
From my perspective, close it down. Louisiana can’t afford it anymore.

Yeah? How has it stayed accredited this long?
Because they met the standards for accreditation?

No worry. The Governor will jump in and straighten this out.
I wonder why he wasn’t interviewed?
ETA from the Picayune in 2011;
I wonder on which side JBE was on?

The bill, strongly backed by Gov. Bobby Jindal, and just as strongly opposed by the Legislative Black Caucus, would have merged the historically black SUNO with the majority white, but racially mixed, UNO into a single lakefront campus with two units

Any institution that has a graduation rate as low as SUNO should be shutdown without a second thought.
It should have been shutdown years ago.
It should have been shutdown years ago.

SUNO might lose that 15 average ACT for accepted students they have built.

What a CRIMINAL waste of tax dollars !
Southern/BR is almost as bad...yet, no political "leader"...white/black/repub./democrat/board of supervisors....NO ONE is brave enough to CORRECT the situation...just ignore it all and keep throwing tax $ away !

JBE voted against the Jindal backed bill to merge SUNO with UNO in committee and spoke out against it.
Now it’s falling apart on his watch.

It's nice how they're deciding to shut it down based on financial struggles instead of the horrible academic performance

Are they supposed to have more than one?
Is one not enough?

SUNO boasts that 6% graduation rate. This is not a misprint yes I said 6% graduation rate. On avg 35 undergraduate students graduate from SUNO with a Degree a year!
Sounds prestigious!

The furloughs, which will go into effect next week, come nearly three months after the city's only public historically black university was placed on probation by its accrediting agency because of its financial struggles.
Oh yea...financial struggles....not the single digits grad rates....

When was SUNO accredited to begin with?

Hope they do it to the one in BR too. For one reason and one reason only.

the shocking thing to me in that article is that Loyola has been on probation by SACS since last year
