When did this begin? I graduated high school in 2001 and we never had this at any point in my childhood.

I am against it. Screw homework during the summer.

My kids have required summer homework in the 4th grade. It's BS in my opinion. Let them be kids.

Had it for as long as I can remember since elementary school. Would just wait till the last week of summer to "read" whatever was on the list and then bullshite the homework assignment.

A long time ago. You must have gone to a really shitty school.

Meh, I hated it when I was in school, but I read some classics that I appreciate now and am glad that I have read.

We didn't have summer reading lists either. Graduated in 2003, from a MS school admittedly, but a "good" school for MS.

Yeah, I remember liking only one or two per summer, but, I didn't complain too much - enjoyed reading and there was usually a really good book or two on the list...

Belaire had a summer reading list in '93 or '94.

I hated having to read the books, but I was glad having read them after the fact.

We had summer reading lists. Never read any of them, was too busy being a fricking kid and enjoying time off from school. It's bullshite.

I love reading, just not when somebody tells me I have to read and only gives me a few options of what I am allowed to read.
