The books on summer reading lists were not usually very long from what I remember. It's not like you spent all summer reading them.

Yes. Lived in a rural area. Closest private school was 1.5 hours away

Yeah most rural public schools probably aren't big on reading

Tell your kids to take a day or two and get it done. Can't take that long. 150 pages? I've read more on the shitter at work. (I.e. What I'm doing right now)

What? Some of the most well read members of my family are backwoods hillbillies, you're an idiot.

But on topic, I discovered Steinbeck and a love for reading through summer reading. It's typically about ten hours tops over three months, is not gonna ruin a summer for a kid. Quit being a douche.

Yeah, but once they finally get electricity and discover porn, they will never pick up a book again.

I was in high school in the mid-80s and always had one. Read War and Peace the summer before my senior year. It was that or 4 other books.

I did, and we had summer reading lists. That was in the mid 90's.

Naturally. But pre-porn, those were some reading motherfrickers.

Yeah because there's a direct correlation between reading a few books during the summer and intelligence. Both of my kids are straight A students. They not only have summer reading but also math and science work to do. It's all a graded assignment too. I think it's stupid in elementary school.

I have a weird regret about not reading more of the books assigned to me at that age, and also not appreciating how good some of these books are.
