Well, there you go. That's another hundred a month potentially by itself.

Stop voting for politicians who chant all of the above. We should not subsidize wind and solar. Period. You not only have renewable costs in the rate base, but also baseload generation because you need to backup renewable sources because of their unreliability.

Hence higher cost for generation in $/kwh.

Ever looked at how much electricity those pumps running 24/7 use? Oh, and colling twice the size of a normal home... I swear there is zero correlation between money and brains.

no its really not. I bet your AC is oversized and is short cycling thus running very inefficient

We have a 3100 sqft house and my bill is like $200.

3 AC units ( a two ton, and two 2.5 tons). Turn them on 72 in evening and 75 during the day we we aren't home. Two of the units are new and one is old. Old one doesn't run much though because we have a weirdly situated AC layout compared to most because of some interesting remodeling choices a previous buyer made

So what do you recommend

New construction should have open cell spray foam. If it's not a new build you can spray foam your roof in the attic.

No fricking way a 3200 sq ft home is being cooled by a 2 ton unit.

One ton per every 500 sq ft is recommended. So, a single 5 ton would still not be enough. Should have two units in that house

Thank you. I’ll take a look. Does no good to purchase a new unit if insulation isn’t sufficient. That’s my goal in about 3 years. It isn’t even an old unit. I just don’t think it’s efficient. Or my house isn’t.

I changed out all the old pool stuff with a new main VSP and it was quite noticeable - like $75 to $100/mo or thereabouts, on average.

Put my deposit down for VSP install yesterday. I'd be thrilled w/ your result.

Running single speed 12 hrs day now, will run VSP at 30% 24/7 and should still be 60-70% less electric use. Wild.

Actually, No. The Tesla solar panels are quite flattering.

I had a couple that high a few summers ago when it didn’t rain for months. House was older and not very well insulated though, it felt like the AC never really shut off

Why would a koi pond need a 400 bill?

We have seen many nice new homes built (2,000-3,000 sq ft) in subdivisions where the developer cut corners on insulation. The homeowner complains that it's a new house and their electric bill shouldn't be $800-$900. We had so many of these calls that we had someone go perform an energy audit. The insulation was horrible. You have to feel for these people, many first time homeowners.

That’s a shame. Seems they’d want their home builds to be quality and efficient. Mine is older so who knows. It’s running 77 right now while thermostat is at 73. It will go down as the sun sets.
