This is something Michael Sartain talks about a lot in his podcasts, how men are still expected to fill traditional male duties, but the power and privileges of traditional male roles have been taken away from them. As he puts it, “Responsibility without Authority equals Slavery”.

I went to a legislative update lunch a month ago where a couple of Ds and Rs talked about current events at the state level. One of them went on this crazy rant about getting cell phones out of schools. I wanted to dismiss him at first, but he claimed to have all this good data about mental illness issues for teens going through the roof with the introduction of smartphones.

I wonder why so many young men are following Andrew Tate now? It can’t possibly be because of the fact that there’s a war on men and that feminism on social media has turned the younger generations of women into spoiled self-absorbed bitches who want to go out to bars at 2 AM and get shitfaced with their social cliques

The responses about young men, when the main thrust of the article is old men are killing themselves at a significant rate, are illuminating.

That last part sounds fun too.

Funny how so many dumbasses on here dismiss Andrew Tate without realizing the problems that are causing men to go towards him. ALL OF YOU who put down Tate followers are part of the problem too.

It’s less the phones (which are just the vehicle) and more the constant exposure to social media. They’re not wrong on the constant exposure has created an issue that is equivalent to addiction.

What do you think is causing the suicide rate among men to be so high? Maybe it’s because we have a society of women who have been programmed to ignore men’s problems because men are so “oppressive” and reek of “toxic masculinity”

I think what people fail to realize is most people are born weak.

It takes good parenting, some luck here and there, maybe a belief in God/higher power, a bit of elbow grease and determination, etc to mold a weak person into a strong one… I don’t know about you, but a quick glance at life suggests that most people aren’t getting anywhere close to having the above list… go in any small town in Louisiana and you’ll see hopelessness and despair, people rife with hardcore drug use.

Some people aren’t sucking a bullet, but hitting a crack pipe or banging needles is a slow suicide in itself. Suicide statistics only count the dead bodies, but if you count the dead-on-the-inside people as well, the number is dramatically different.

From cradle to grave, a LOT of people never had a shot at becoming strong.

I’m going to argue that if you’re putting a social media influencer (and that’s what he is) on such a pedestal to claim he’s become a “father figure” for young men, there’s definitely some things that need to be talked about.

Particularly why that person has abandoned other actual male figures in their life as role models.

I wonder how many of those older men were terminally ill or just physically miserable. Maybe it’s not many but I know my dad contemplated suicide when he was suffering from terminal lung cancer. I wouldn’t have blamed him.

Men have always had higher suicide rates than women, largely due to men utilizing more lethal means when attempting. Women tend to use things in attempts like pills, which can allow for more time to intervene and save them. Men tend to use firearms, which don’t allow that kind of intervention.

The numbers have gone up among all populations since the introduction of social media in the 00s. It’s not healthy to be that connected all of the time for anyone.

Older men seeing an increase is likely due to social isolation (you don’t have as many senior community services like you used to due to lack of funding), loss of a spouse, and increasing terminal health issues (particularly dementia). Senior care in this country is pretty abysmal as a whole.

Women are less successful in suicide attempts because they want to emotionally gaslight other people like the narcissistic little twats they are. Men want their problems want to go away which is why they are more successful in attempting suicide.

This seems to be a healthy, evidence-based perspective.

I was listening to a podcast discussing the suicide rate for white males, and in the next episode, the hostess said that she got a flood of replies from women (she estimated most of them between 20 and 30 years of age) saying things like “Good! More!” And “So? Why should I care?” , and “Maybe white men should try not being fascist sexist pigs”.

Whoa. Link to the podcast episode?

No, he's correct.

Women aren't serious about suicide, it's often used as a way of seeking attention.

Men don't fk around.

Hear me out, if the main trust of the increase is old men, its probably something else. You know, terminal illness or lost of close family/friends.

You got some political point to make, which would make more sense if 19-30 were seeing this spike.

Over 75 really shouldn't count, they are often doing themselves, families and society a favor.

I'm 60, if I ever get to the point I need to go to a NH, I'm going to take a big hand full of pills.

If I get a bad case of dementia, etc., I'm either going to get elected POTUS or have my spouse/kids give me an insulin shot between the toes.

I don’t know any men who are relying on women to fix their problems. Do you?
