Why are you posting on TD and not focusing on the kids? Hope you are not in my kid's class.

I am good with kids. I enjoy teaching and I believe there are too few teachers who really give a damn. So I decided to walk the talk and give it a try.

How much will you make today?

It is a good idea. You will learn a hell of a lot more than the kids will. Just listen to them and roll with it.
Honestly I'm glad for the experience and hope they learn something from me. But many of them take compassion and kindness for weakness and test boundaries. It's difficult finding the middle ground.

Well you are the sub. I am sure they have less respect for you than they would for the regular teacher.

I almost signed up to do it here in Nola a couple days a week when I'm not bartending the night before.
I work well with disenfranchised youth and for some reason have always been able to relate when I've done any charity or big brother work.
I'm sure the inner city schools here in the city can be harsh but I'd enjoy it. They also pay $100 if I'm not mistsken. You have to be placed by a temp agency that the schools use.

This just proves that not everyone can be a teacher. It takes a special person to teach.

Do it if only once. The kids really do grow on you. I started back in November, but to this point have only taught HS. For the few kids you do reach as a sub, it's heartwarming. But unfortunately the bad kids outweigh the good.

Man I might email them today to do that little online test deal.

Is that all it takes to be a sub?
