Yep... you do some online test. Then give them all your info to make sure you aren't a pedo. And you tell them what days you want to work and they place you.

They told me I could do St. John, jeffer, Orleans parishes. Or that's the one this agency placed.

Dude remember the subs we had back in school? You think those people were fully vetted high IQ types?

This just proves that not everyone can be a teacher. It takes a special person to teach.

Teaching is kind of like the hospitality industry or even construction industry. It's not that anyone can't physically do the job, but not everyone is really cut out for doing it as a career. I agree with your sentiment.

Da fuq? I pay over $500/month for my health insurance. Sure, you can retire at 55, if you want 40% of your pay for the rest of your life. You think anyone's gonna live on that?

I'm currently a sub teacher as well. It's a mixed bag with how kids perceive you. A lot of classes I sub for get really excited when they see I'm the teacher, because that means to them they get a break from their overbearing regular teacher. So initially, the kids are eager to be on good behavior for you. But then, of course you have the ones that toe the line and see how far they can push you, which influences the other kids to follow suit.

Substitute teaching is a good way to get a feel for the teaching position in terms of dealing with classroom and behavior management. I like the fact that as a substitute, you can choose to work at elementary, middle or high schools, and bounce around to get a feel for what age group you work best with.

Substituting actually influenced me to decide to go back to school to get my teaching certification. Perhaps you may do the same. Good luck! The ultimate reward is working with a student day in and day out who may be struggling with a concept and when you finally help them click and understand. It's pretty awesome to help students progress and grow academically.

Before class let out several kids said I was the best sub they've ever had, make learning fun, and they wish I'd come teach them tomorrow. Made me tear up a little.

Yea I'm an out of work bum who chooses to make 100 bucks a day to teach kids while I'm looking for jobs instead of taking out unemployment.

I am an IT professional who just finished up a 12 month contract making more than you make in five years.

I'm a bum who chooses to get up in the morning and try to make a small impact in a kids life. frick you.

Im a black man who chooses to sub in underprivileged black community because I pride myself on being a black man who is educated and a positive contributor to my community. frick you again.

Thanks! I'm weighing the decision to keep on and get my cert or go back to making more money in the private sector. Teaching is definitely more rewarding, but some days as a sub make me wanna go back.

Where did I say I'm the only one? And the only reason why I said anything about my ethnicity is because of your bs.

I can generally tell which boys are acting out due to not having a regular male figure in their lives. I'm not sure where all your negativity is coming from.

Are you a teacher?

You gotta sacrifice one of those little bastards right from the beginning to let the rest of them know you mean business. The instant, and I mean THE INSTANT, the first one steps the least little bit out of line, you just piston a fist into that little bastard's stomach. Now, the kid's going to cry and boohoo once breathing returns to normal and some of the others may start up too. You're going to have to nip that shite right in the bud. You pummel the snivelers just like you pummeled the first kid.

Eventually, they'll get the idea, and I guarantee those little savages won't leave their desk and won't make a sound, even for recess.
