Honestly, I wish there would have been a hand washing mandate. Before you enter a business, you had to sanitize your hands. That would make so much more sense and I would buy all the johnson&johnson stock.

You still Have not answered my question.
I don’t propose that. I’m asking you what you want to do. You said 2 year shelter in place may be necessary because this virus is proven dangerously detriment to our entire society. You said that.
I propose the government stay out of it. The obese should take some personal responsibility and make better life choices. They can wear a mask and wash their hands.
Obese people are at high risk for tons of things. We don’t shut the world down to protect them.
I do not believe the government should be involved with making sure society shuts down because some people, based on their own life choices, are more prone to having problems.
I’m not advocating for the shut down of the fast food industry because fat people who eat it die of heart attacks. You can eat some fast food every once in a while and not have a problem.
But if you eat it every day while having high blood pressures or morbid obesity you are going to die. We accept that as life.
Similarly, you can take precautions for yourself against getting this virus. If you take none of them, you will probably get it. And if you have high risk you should make sure you take the precautions.
The government should stay out of that.
This virus isn’t transmitted through magic. You can avoid it.

Where do you stand on allowing anyone under the age of 65 to go about their business while taking extra care around elderly and high risk?
quote:
high risk is 40% of our population for obesity alone.
i don't know how you propose to take "extra care" of them, also.

i was formerly hard in this group but it seems that reinfections will occur and some sort of herd immunity is unlikely
hopefully those studies are wrong
Please link, because I've only seen speculation. I've seen no evidence of reinfections.
Also, if reinfections occur and herd immunity is unlikely, then the chances of a vaccine are slim.

As a health care provider, the last thing you want to do is tell someone they are cured and release them back into the community, only to learn later that they started a whole new chain of virus transmission. Fortunately, a new study from the South Korean Center for Disease Control helps to answer part of the question. They studied patients who tested negative upon recovery, but in later tests became positive again. Could they spread the virus again?
quote:
It turns out, despite the positive test, they found that none of them were secreting live, infectious virus. It was a quirk of the rapid tests, which sample for low levels of genetic material, not whole virus. They concluded that the recovered patients had residual genetic fragments that still triggered the tests to turn positive. Those individuals were no longer contagious.
This was a relief. In other good news, a new draft paper reports that monkeys that were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus developed antibodies and were protected from illness when exposed to the virus a second time. It’s a small study, but it offers a glimmer of hope that once infected, there is immunity to re-infection.

taking them out of the economy will frick us into depression by itself.
Who said we have to take them out the economy?
You think it’s either shelter in place or wild lack of inhibitions?
If you’re high risk and scared, wash your hands, don’t touch your face, avoid social gatherings, etc....

it's clear, however, looking back that we can control the spread with restrictions on society (imposed via governmental or cultural means).
Do you honestly have no clue how fking nefarious this sounds?

There are fearporn articles out there now claiming this. No studies or actual data. Just speculation. But that's more than plenty for journalism today.

It's too bad it's difficult to trace. Otherwise, if someone in that group dies of COVID, the knowingly infected group should be charged with manslaughter.

There is nothing factual or scientific about the notion that people who had Covid 19 and recovered from it will get it again. And not only get it again, but months later get it again. That notion defies science.
People are stupid.
People are stupid.

I've had the virus, so I have a very vested interest on whether reinfections can occur.
I have spent a considerable amount of time looking for evidence, and I have found none. I have found plenty of evidence that it cannot occur (at least this season).
I have found no evidence of ANY reinfections.

a combination of stuff
Spanish study on herd immunity (not about reinfection specifically)
Immunity to covid-19 could disappear in months, a new study suggests
Studies report rapid loss of CV-19 antibodies

not to add to the government flip flop, but isn't the hand-transmission issue not really a concern anymore?

From your second link:
quote:
In short, we have not yet generated enough data from patients to be able to draw conclusions on immunity with a high degree of certainty. There have been anecdotal reports of people catching covid-19 for a second time, but none have been confirmed.
Posted on 7/15/20 at 11:52 am to SlowFlowPro
Yeah but dude, come on. That's a "study". There are studies for a bunch of things. You don't read about a study being done, and immediately live your life according to that. And you certainly don't run around declaring that to be true just because it's being studied.
Come on, you're an attorney. You know this kind of stuff.

quote:Transmission hasn't been confirmed one way or the other. What we don't know is if it's airborne although that seems more likely. Moisture containing the virus is the most proven form of transmission. This can and does included touching your mouth or nose and then another object. It can live on that object in those droplets for some time during which someone else touches it and then their own face. Boom. Spread.
but isn't the hand-transmission issue not really a concern anymore

this is the primary issue. you'd have to isolate these people and have robots serve them or something
i mean we saw in the initial surge that nursing homes were really, really bad things.

but if you go through the demos I posted earlier, we're talking about removing a huge chunk out of the economy
that's WITHOUT relying simply on the obese category
