AOL yes, I used it too in the 90's, but the "chat rooms" werent really a thing until 2000 on. Maybe a select group of "computer nerds" had them figured out earlier. But it wasn't ubiquitous, and doesnt keep with the spirit of OP.

ASL is absolutely a 90s thing.
The only thing that MIGHT be exclusive to the 00s is ASLP, where P stands for picture, and was often used once scannners and webcams became more common.
