Study shows that 49 percent of Covid patients started with GI symptoms

About 15 percent of the Covid patients had diarrhea.

Study was published in American Journal of Gastroenterology.
“ In the present study, 204 patients with COVID-19 and full laboratory, imaging, and historical data were analyzed. The average age was 54.9 years (SD +15.4), including 107 men and 97 women. We found that 99 patients (48.5%) presented to the hospital with digestive symptoms as their chief complaint. Patients with digestive symptoms had a significantly longer time from onset to admission than patients without digestive symptoms (9.0 days vs. 7.3 days). Patients with digestive symptoms had a variety of manifestations, such as anorexia (83 [83.8%] cases), diarrhea (29 [29.3%] cases), vomiting (8 [0.8%] cases), and abdominal pain (4 [0.4%] cases). In 7 cases there were digestive symptoms but no respiratory symptoms. As the severity of the disease increased, digestive symptoms became more pronounced. Patients without digestive symptoms were more likely to be cured and discharged than patients with digestive symptoms (60% vs. 34.3%)”

BTW, the common range is 3-10%
This one doesn’t have the same affinity for the gut as SARS/MERS
For them to come out of left field and say it’s 50% is....questionable.

Diarrhea specifically was 29 percent for the 99 that had GI symptoms. Other GI symptoms raised the number

about the only really reliable information is the genetic-based information you linked a few days ago

I still think my son already had this illness.
Two weeks ago he started feeling fatigued and kinda weak. Especially at the end of the school day. I could barely understand him when he talked and he judged wanted to lay around.
Few days later he was having stomach aches and had a few bouts of diarrhea.
About the same time a cough started.
By Wednesday night he spiked a 102.5 fever and the coughed worsened. The cough got so nasty we worried about going to the emergency room
By Friday evening, he was fine. Lingering wet cough lasted for a few days.
Flu test was negative.

Yep. It was especially annoying when people were trying to tout preliminary papers not even crossing peer review as evidence. Research is a very slow burn.
Scientists only go in a lab and save the world in a crucial hour or two in the movies.
