I imagine that age group is increasingly living on a fixed income, as well. Might factor in that.
Not only that they lived during harder economic times without all the electronic stuff of these days. And service back then was far superior to now.
Most as kids worked to make spending money. They valued money and are likely less apt to over tip. Along with fixed income the style and time of upbringing was much different.

Those are small differences. A 3% difference on $20 is 60 cents.

I hate tipping culture, I think it shouldn't exist. That being said, I'm not a broke arse bitch to not tip at least 15%. And if the food is that pricey and you're feeling hurt by the price, why are you going out to begin with.

Gee, people on fixed retirement income are stingy.

Oh crap. One of these threads again. There are still a lot of people around from the Silent Generation that are included in the over 61 group.
Not only do you people hate your parents but you hate your grand parents too. Almost as much as you hate yourselves.

Study shows the boomers grandchildren are the worst tippers, tipping way more than anyone else in the world. And most of the world hates them for their stupid virtue signaling tip inflation. Seriously, I've been traveling the world in a big way for a few years and nearly everywhere I go people ask WTF is going on with American tipping, we don't want that stupidity here.

Well that generation grew up when 15% was the standard and 20% was outstanding. So they are tipping more than what they considered normal in their working years.
Now 18-25% is the range and that's ridiculous.

why? I don't tip less than 25% when the service warrants it. Exceptional service should be rewarded. And exceptional service is more about attitude than actions IMO.

Boomers once again showing why they are the worst generation imaginable
Do we need to start a list?

tipping, especially over tipping, is definitely an American thing, tipping is actually offensive to servers in some countries

I'd always go back in "to use the restroom" and leave some more cash on the table when we'd go out to eat with my Grandpa.
Do this with my dad. They're lucky to get 10% off him.

Not a big deal and I'm discrete.

My Dad (Boomer) on the other hand is the absolute fricking worst and will find any excuse he can to not tip.
I receive email notices all the time from my Credit Card providers from me leaving exorbitant tips:
"Did you mean to leave a 38% tip at (restaurant name here) ?"
The next time you feel compelled to publicly tar his generational group with the same brush, I'd appreciate it if you would remember that not all of us are selfish pricks.
I'm an unselfish prick.

tipping was usually 15% for most of the lives of boomers. The standard has recently crept up to 18% .
Why would the % change? As prices go up so would tips. There is no reason for the % to change.
